Online campaign urges Sesame Street to 'teach tolerance'
Big Bird could be best man. That's the image if an online push looking to join Bert and Ernie in gay matrimony is successful.
"We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful," reads the petition at Change.org. "It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different."
Sesame Street spokesmen insist the muppet pair are merely "best friends" with "no sexual orientation," reports the New York Daily News. They were "created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves," said a statement.
What? Bert’s gay? Ernie yeah, but Bert?
They said all they wanted was tolerance - just tolerance. We made the mistake of giving it to them.

Upon re-read, I think you are right.
When I was a young boy on the playground I’d hear the word “fag” tossed around. I barely knew about sex between men and women at the time. I inquired what fag meant. It was explained to me and I had to ask how would it be possible for two men to have sex. I was told that they stuck their wieners in each others butts. I was immediately repulsed and disgusted at the thought of such sexual perversion. Nobody had taught me that I should consider this behavior to be disgusting or repulsive, I was born this way. I wish people could learn to be more tolerant and accept me for who I am.
People will always behave in a way that they believe will get them what they want.
By assiduously following this tolerance bullcrap, we fail to draw the necessary lines in the sand and the deviants become ever more militant.
We must stop enabling these people and we must start confronting them.
The Pedophile Lobby is heard from again. Not that they ever shut up. In a sane society, the attempted sexualization of preschoolers would be a hanging offense. But I guess that just makes me “intolerant”.

There’s nothing in the news that says the producers of the program are going to say yes to the petition.
If you really want to save lives, stop the people who are introducing kids to gay behaviors. They aren’t born that way. They are molded that way by their environment.
The gays I have known were introduced to that behavior at an early age. I had a friend in the second grade that was gay. He said his cousin introduced him to it. Second graders shouldn’t even be thinking about sex, but his cousin had already warped him.
No, I remember Mr. Hooper dying, for real and on the show. I thought I read a story about Bert dying of cancer and Ernie being all alone. So I thought he was dead already, so to speak. Maybe he came back like Spock!
Who's the daddy? What demented person thinks this is a good idea? Next GI Joe will marry Ken, Braatz with Barbie, Chipmunks with Beavers,and the attack on our children will slowly take hold.

I made my kids stop watching Sesame Street after that episode where Bert, wearing all leather, and selling coke got busted with Oscar the Grouch during a raid at the Manhole bar down in the West Village.
It was really sad to watch Ernie have to not only bail Bert out of jail, but also convince him to go to rehab.
