Online campaign urges Sesame Street to 'teach tolerance'
Big Bird could be best man. That's the image if an online push looking to join Bert and Ernie in gay matrimony is successful.
"We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful," reads the petition at Change.org. "It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different."
Sesame Street spokesmen insist the muppet pair are merely "best friends" with "no sexual orientation," reports the New York Daily News. They were "created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves," said a statement.
It was really sad to watch Ernie have to not only bail Bert out of jail, but also convince him to go to rehab.
“They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, “No, no, no” Yes, I’ve been Bert but when I come back you’ll know, know, know...”
bert and ernie were the two brothers like most brothers who shared a room.
This is just plain sick.
Remember seasame street royalties can totally fund pbs.
Sesame Street got a little odd for my siblings’ taste of their kids years ago. Right now, they only confirm it to remove all doubt.
I believe he is quoting from the petition, not giving his own opinion.
How about they tell us about exactly what they do in private, rather than leave confusion to young minds as to the fact that simply people of the same gender living together aren’t automatically homosexual. Go figure, but then again, some things aren’t about telling it as it is.
I would also add that parents likely teach you to keep your own hands away from your crap, which would probably affirm and reinforce it further.
Bert is a Coke dealer, wow, it’s a good thing I only saw Sesame Street back when it was getting started. Sounds like a bad example for kids already.
Bert would prefer that you say that he is in “pharmaceutical sales.”

My answer, and I have one, is not what you expect.
I believe that Russia has, for several decades, attempted to destabilize America. The process requires time and patience. Russia is sponsoring and motivating individuals and groups in a quest for fictitious “justice”, usually without their knowledge. They have infiltrated organizations of education, politics, religion, Blacks, Mexican-Americans, unions, media, the women’s movement, the homosexual movement, and others with the idea that society must be changed by articulating grievances and demanding Socialism as an answer.
I am not alone in believing this. But to believe it requires that one accept that Russia’s foreign policy is far more active and malicious than we ordinarily think.
Sick and getting sicker.
P.S.: The reason Americans do not automatically suspect Russia has a long-term effort to change America, is that we don’t see in our own country something comparable. Any effort we make, except to advocate a free economy and political system, can’t last more than a couple election cycles. Russia doesn’t have this problem; it can start something that requires willpower and backing at the highest governmental level, and keep at it for decades.
Let’s wake up. Let’s associate with and look for guidance from groups that are least likely to have been influenced by a long-term disruptive campaign from Russia. I would list at least these: evangelical churches based wholly in America, and the Tea Party.
When I was a kid, I already recognized Bert as a control freak and Ernie as a manipulative little bastard.
I didn’t consider them rump rangers. Of course, at the time, I had no concept of such things.
I pity the children who are exposed to the sewerage the freaks of this world are pouring out.
It’s possible as well that plenty of people who admired having things their own selfish way are at it. Communists don’t neccessarily need to have direct affiliation with the Russians. But either way, the weakening of the U.S. economy benefits whichever parties we know in the global hegemony.
There are plenty of ideas out there like Communism as proscribed by Marx and Engels, it’s all a matter of which attempts get caught and thwarted, the key is making the main steps work, without the popular sovereignty turning against you.
I don’t have anything against homosexuals but introducing gay themes in children’s shows is ridiculous! I’m glad the producers of Sesame Street aren’t giving in to this petition. How would Bert and Ernie’s getting married stop teen bullying? Teens don’t watch Sesame Street.
