guns laws, self defense, and where the heck are the 'red' areas as opposed to the 'blue'

The red areas of CT are in northern NH.

PS -- if you bump into my in-laws, don't talk them: they will just annoy you.

Housing in Fairfield county is very expensive. Most people who are not highly-paid live in less expensive communities, but the commuting traffic is terrible.

If you give more info about your situation, I might be able to give further advice.

Fairfield County has the worst Lowell Weicker style Republicans. The northwest part of the state is a little better. The area between Hartford and New Haven is lost, with pockets of country club Republicans in areas like Glatonbury, Avon and West Hartford.

Waterbury is somewhat right-leaning in a decaying city kind of way.

STAY AWAY FROM BRIDGEPORT. REALLY!

Oh, and go to Sally’s on Wooster Street in New haven and get yourself and your family a nice apizza. That will make everything else a little better.

Stew Leonard’s has great meats, produce and milk. Lots of fun at Christmas time.

Welcome from Southern Hartford/Northern New Haven County! There really aren’t any “red” areas of Connecticut. I think we’re mostly spread out and living amongst the libs.

You need a CCW permit to buy a hand gun or even go to a shooting range with one. Long guns are not subject to the same restriction, though there might be a waiting period.

Red areas? Pfft. We’re lucky to get 35-40% Republican votes in any election, and most GOP politicians here are RINOs.

Not sure where you are coming from, but you are likely in for tax shock—property, sales, etc.

If you have children, seriously think of Home or Private Schooling.

It is Yankees Blue & white strips. Beyond Fairfield Cty, it is Red Sox country. Politically used to be Blueblood, country club republicans but it has voted in Jimney Himes 2x, a Pelosi puppet. This last election Himes had Obama in twice for fundraisers. He still had to hold the polls open in Bridgeport beyond the closing time to win.

I live in Fairfield County. Much of what is said is true. However, it is more nuanced than it appears. Our tea party group is doing fairly well. Just held a rally Sunday in Stamford. There are a couple other groups as well in RINOland. The best combination of saving on money and finding true conservatives is Ridgefield, CT, south of Danbury. The schools are decent, but not great. Bethel, nearby, might be a second choice. Roxbury is also cheaper. If you need to be close to I-95 and the railroad, there are sections of Fairfield near Black Rock Turnpike which will work. Housing prices start to get reasonable because it is near Bridgeport, but not like Bridgeport. Fairfield has tended to be conservative. The latest word is that community is trending to more conservative attitudes.

That being said, remember you are moving into not just a blue state, but THE blue state that recently gave obama a 60% approval rate, while the national average is 39%.

The tea party was able to put a good dent in the liberal hegemon that has controlled Hartford for some 30 years. We managed to tilt the ratio from 3 dems for each republican to 2 dems for each republican in the state legislature and we are just a couple away from taking back the state senate. But with liberal maniac Dan Malloy, it is an awful situation. EVERYBODY who is tea party inclined needs to be working feverishly at the grass roots level. One sign that we can do it is that a couple of the districts that went republican in 2010, stayed democrat even under Reagan. We have to work our butts off.

You need to specify what town or city but Litchfield County is closer to Red. And alot less expensive. But it’s a commute.
