Top Ten Firearms for Females
|
Personal defense means always having the means to defend yourself at any time and in any situation. With the continued rise in crimes and attacks against women, it's even more important for females to stand their ground and protect themselves. When pepper spray and stun guns are no longer enough to get the job done, it's time to look for a personal defense weapon that is more powerful and effective. With this in mind, we've compiled a list of what we believe to be the top ten handguns for female defense. Each of these handguns are light, compact and easy to carry whether it be in a pocket or a purse. With their easy operating capabilities and excellent power to weight ratio, these handguns will allow you to walk more comfortably and more confidently because your personal safety is something that should never be taken for granted. |

I carry a Smith and Wesson 38 Police Special. Does the job just right for me. I have a Taurus *Lady Gun* but I still prefer the 38.

There are no guns for girls.
There are no guns for guys.
There are guns.
There are people.
People with all sizes and shapes of hands.
People with widely varied tolerance for mechanical complexity.
People with widely varied physical strength.
The question is not "What's a good gun for a girl?" or "What's a good gun for a guy?"
The question is "What's the right gun for YOU?"
I can't answer that for you. Neither can Captain Keyboard Commando.
Only YOU can find the right gun for YOU, and that by trying.
An experienced shooter or instructor can help.
That's best done in person.

A 357 revolver is a nice one too, you can shoot 38 special round through it for target shooting and the 357 rounds for stopping power.

Glad to see it was mostly semi-autos. There is a myth among male shooters that the “little lady” needs a tiny revolver in a mouse-caliber.

Ruger SP101 or GP100 if your hands are big enough. The LCR also is available in .357 Magnum.
By the way some women can’t use an automatic, as they don’t have the strength to rack the slide.
To: Immerito
Nice selection and I do not disagree with anything! For a few more ounces (23), a lady might consider the Steyr M-9, a fine-shooting and accurate piece, and with those great Triangle/Trapazoid sights..
To: Immerito
My wife has a Smith and Wesson Ladysmith in .357. It’s from the same ‘family’ as the 642 on the list (’J’ Frame?), but it’s stainless steel insetad of aluminum, so it’s a bit heavier than the .38+P 642. Her Ladysmith also has rosewood grips instead of pink rubber. It is a fine and very reliable weapon.
She also has a Taurus PT 111 (possibly an older version of the Millenium Pro 111 on the list?). It is chambered for 9 mm and has also been a very reliable weapon.

Why such small caliber pistols? Women deserve a 45, too. My wife loves her Kimber Ultra-Carry Raptor (It's purse sized!):

I love my little Colt 25 automatic...and if that doesn’t stop an intruder, I can grab my Mossberg 510 pump action 20 gauge...I might go down, but I’ll go down fightin’!
