A Belgian soccer match was temporarily stopped on Saturday after visiting fans taunted Japanese goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima over the recent Fukushima nuclear disaster.

The referee halted the match between Lierse SK and Beerschot after some Beerschot supporters began chanting: “Kawashima-Fukushima.”

The match resumed after a delay of several minutes and ended in a 1-1 draw. Kawashima left the field in tears and said later he could forgive many insults, “but not this.”

The a-holes are everywhere. I think it’s worse in Europe but they are here too.

Surprisingly, that’s tame compared to some of the things that the European soccer*-mouthbreathers chant.

* - I will not call the sport “football.” Football is a manly American sport that does not involve dainty little sissies from the non-American parts of the world flouncing about a “pitch.”

That guy never played in Madison Square Gardens.

I remember after Pelle Lindbergh died in a car accident, the fans yelled at the Flyer goalie, "Buy a Porsche."

I don’t get it.

What does a goalie have to do with earthquakes and nuke accidents?

Country of origin ?

Give me a seat by a drunken redneck at the next college football game, please.

These Belgian fans showed themselves to be the lowest people on earth.

I can understand them wanting their team to win, but not under these circumstances. Thousands of people died, then they had to worry about radiation after all they had already been through.

The game should have been given to the Japanese to teach these lowlifes a lesson. Their teams will pay for their ignorance. Maybe then they would learn to go to these games and act like decent people.

AMerican football is “football”...
Soccer is “FEETBALL”... it is not football..

You use ONE foot in american football(punting).. you use both feet in soccer..

How would you score that, exactly? Some random Japanese team gets a win complements of the two Belgian teams?

Well, in this case, the Belgians contributed a thread where you can feel superior about yourself.

How else do you stop the random ignorance at soccer games? I’m talking about THIS INSTANCE. Not all games. Just how far should people be allowed to go? European soccer fans are the worst in the world and maybe if they know their teams will pay a price for ignorance then they will stop.

They beat eachother, act like animals and ruin it for people who just want to see a good game. They have been a problem for years. There has to be an end somewhere.

This instance was disgusting enough.

Big horses. My draft hobby dad’s got two aging teams. The local and within-driving-distance Amish all use gigantic butterscotch Belgians and Belgian-cross mules, with a few Percherons, but nary a Clydesdale or Shire found.

And the Belgique once had, in Louvaine, the biggest, best kept, most accessible library of irreplaceable volumes and Gothic and Renaissance manuscripts anywhere on the planet, but the pre-Nazis burned it down in WWI.

In Scotland in the year after 9/11,something similar happened to an American playing in the Scottish League. Some fans of the opposing team made airplane wing motions with their arms...all directed at the player named Claudio Reyna. SCUM!
