I agree, I wouldn’t doubt they have a system like that in place. And of course, in their minds they are so much more intelligent then the rest of us that they would doubt our powers of observation and they would assume their system wasn’t obvious to anyone but them. lol
Now seriously, I was reading somewhere that either gangs or would be thieves have been using symbols to mark their marks. Such as an arrow means seldom home and an X means home all day, etc. After observing they place a mart as a way to determine the best time of day, if any to target your home. Not sure if they would use dots that way, but that is the first thing I thought of. And if I remember it correctly what I read, this has been done in places in Europe over the last several years though not with dots.

Heck, now all it takes is reading “smart” meters to figure out a person’s routine, when they’re on vacation, etc.
The markings were used by hobos during the great depression. They didn’t mark the house. The marked trees and posts leading up to the house(or business) from highways and railroads. The markings were in use as long as the hobo lifestyle was common, which ceased to be in the 1970s I believe.
The original bums and tramps (from the mid-1860’s through the 1950’s) used similar markings to show which houses were “easy taps” for free meals.....
And which should be avoided as dangers.
Hobo symbols?
