hmmm, yesterday I was on a paddleboard at the entrance of the Santa Cruz harbor watching some larger waves roll in right at high tide. All of a sudden a couple of big striper jumped out of the water next to me going someplace in a hurry; I was sitting and reached up to grab and slapped one as it went by, it was that close. It occurred to me it was probably trying to get away from something bigger...I got a move on and stood up to ride the swell coming in.

...and then out of the corner of my eye saw a large shape in the water splash up at the surface a few feet away...a big sea lion. Guess that’s what the striper were evading. I sure thought it was going to be a shark story. At that moment tho...my 12’ SUP didn’t seem quite big enough.

The Great White shark dislikes liberal meat. Unfortunately that was all that was available in California.
