“Palin.”

Yes, of course. But my ratings (strictly on debate points, without favoritism of any particular candidate) of those who were present would be:

1. Romney - kept cool under fire; didn’t make any mistakes appeared congenial, not in the attack dog mode; had a better wetback answer than Perry.
2. Gingrich - kick@$$ mode just like the last debate with the flaming lib media;
3. Huntsman - continued to stand out for holding his ground; whether you agree with him or not (which I don’t), he did exude confidence.
4. Bachmann - had by far the best wetback answer to the wetback questioner pulled from across the border; otherwise her performance was repetitive, mundane, and mediocre.
5. Perry - had several ups and downs; not too bad for first debate, but much fine tuning is required; floundered here and there (the Ponzi scheme bit, while true, will require some spin action; his shining hour was on the death penalty.
6. Santorum - sorry, but I just can’t take this guy seriously; he needs to stop taking up bandwidth and go join Specter in retirement.
7. Cain - if you thought all the drones were in Pakistan, you obviously didn’t watch the debate. A lot like Bachmann with the same monotone routine over and over (but at least she went after the wetbacks). Like her also, solid conservative views, but wake me when it’s time to get excited.
8. Paul - Texas’ Jerry Brown was as incoherent as ever as he floundered all over the countryside trying to explain his positions, or lack thereof.

Of special note was the obvious gotcha questions aimed primarily at Perry (and they affected his performance) and that dufus yahoo from Politico who was as useless as tits on a boar hog.

Newt was clearly the class of the field tonight...he was engaged, combative, and full of ideas. He would completely slay Obama in any debate.

To be honest, I think Gingrich won.

You're right - there was no contest, Gingrich did win.

Perry reminds me of the guy that played the twilight zone show, who came back from the dead at the funeral, where the whole town showed up.

I agree with you absolutely. Have been saying "In or Out" all week and getting flamed royally.

This is how Palin treats people...Let them guess?? It stinks!!

I was expecting to favor Perry over Romney.

I had just the opposite reaction.

Perry was very under whelming.

Romney was articulate detailed and Presidential.

Bachman was wonderful, but I am afraid she leaves the door open for Obama if she is the nominee.

She doesn't need to do any of them until only Romney and Perry are left.

Bump to your post.

The concern trolls that say she is waiting too long are learning why she's waiting........

I am astonished that anyone could think that Palin won by not being there, it just boggles me that not to show up makes one a winner.

Always size up your enemies before attacking, it's not exactly Sun Tzu, but pretty close :^)

To every one answering “Palin” (and if serious), she loses lots of points by not showing up to debates.

You need to prove that you can successfully articulate a vision, and a conservative vision IN A DEBATE. 2008 McCain was a bumbling idiot in the debates trying to articulate the conservative point of view.

If you cannot prove that you can debate (stump speeches in front of your bus are not debates), you’re not going to get people’s votes.

Any candidate that thinks they can swoop in unvetted by the GOP base and get the nod is sorely mistaken. We’re not making the same mistake we made in 2008. No way, no how.

Seems the candidates should agree to:

1) attack Obama and socialism
2) attack the LSM

Far more profitable than attacking each other, since doing #1 and #2 does much more to guarantee one of them will win, than attacking each other.

You are right! They would've frenzied! She would have fielded questions about her uterus, praying in tongues and killing poor defenseless animals. She is wilely!! Let attrition thin the field; play a risk-off game; wait till game time dictates her being on the field; with the Lords direction.

Perry is my Governor and I think it is too early to decide whether I will vote for him or not. But I am prepared to give him a small break for tonight. We have a ton of problems here in Texas with our massive wildfires, lack of airplanes and resources to fight them, conflicts with the U.S. Forestry Service, etc. and he has spent the last two days here attending to business. I am sure that did interfere somewhat with his prep time and his inability to focus - none of the other candidates have quite as much on their plate as he does right now. The question relating to naming the scientists with whom you disagree was certainly a GOTCHA - kind of like some of the questions Sarah received in 2008. As a state the inability to function because of governmental regulations is always in our face - something else that none of the other candidates deal with on a day-to-day basis.

No one watches these early debates, especially on MSNBC. This was libs fragging the declared candidates. I say they all lose points for participating in this sideshow.

Sad, isn’t it. The best man has so damaged himself by his questionable decisions like Scaza Fava and saying that he didn’t realize Obama would be as liberal as he is, along with a few other gaffs throughout his career, that he really doesn’t stand a chance.

Newt really did give the best answers.

2) Never look back

I don't like Huntsman.

I tune Paul out. He stumbles around so much when he speaks that it's painful.

Perry was in that same boat a few times tonight. Other than that I don't know what to think of him yet.

I like Romney's voice.

Bachmann was OK but I cringe a little when she starts "I was the only one.....".

Santorum....I don't know. Just indifference at this point.

Gingrich sounds decisive when he speaks. He zinged the media hacks tonight which always causes me to clap my hands and cheer. I've liked him the best in both debates and if you'd have told me that a year ago I would have laughed in your face.

Cain speaks well too and I like his ideas.

Cain
Newt

Then the rest.

Romney-I know where he stands on most things so I can’t fall for him.
Perry-Just didn’t excite me to be honest. Maybe it was an off night

Cain and Newt excited me and really pleased me. Cain especially because he spoke with a plan. My wife (who doesn’t get into politics much) who was working on something on her computer perked up when she heard Cain and started to ask about him.
