The Palin "Cult"

The Sarah Palin “Cult”

I’ve been trying for awhile to get my mind wrapped around all this, and would like to offer these thoughts going into this election cycle….

I first stumbled across Free Republic when checking out Obama's eligibility issues prior to the 2008 election. I first experienced the Drudge Report after listening to Rush during the Lewinsky scandal.

When I really got into FR I felt like I had found the mother lode of conservatism; an eclectic group that regularly mixed it up over issues I hadn’t thought of as issues before.

For instance, I had never considered myself a “statist” for enjoying the benefits of the REA…

My granddad left the farm in Missouri during the dustbowl and joined the CCC; going on later to the US Army and the State Department and a gun shop- I hadn’t thought of him as a communist before!

Fast forward to Sarah Palin; even among Republicans, her advocates are known as the “Palin Cult”, “Palinistas”, and “Palin-Bots”.

These are terms of marginalization that are designed to evoke unfounded responses in the uninformed which we must counter.

A “cult” is a heretical religious group, straying from the sound doctrine of the orthodox mainstream. While there is certainly a religious component of conservatism (we wrestle with secular conservatives and libertarians) who believes the descent of the USA has a distinctly spiritual aspect; there is no deviation from orthodox interpretation of scripture on which to hang a tag of heresy here. The picture is painted as such, however. God chooses leaders and anoints whom He sees fit (See Romans 12). When we acknowledge this we are now cultists? The “bitter clingers” are non-orthodox heretics?

“Palinistas” are the socialist rebels equated to the “Sandinistas” of Nicaragua. Supporters of SP are neither socialist nor rebels- quite the opposite. They are patriots, working class, veterans, taxpayers and voters who are in fact the backbone of this country. Once again, this is a reversal of the truth.

“Palin-Bots” implies a robotic, non-thinking blind support programmed from some external headquarters. Since Sarah didn’t come through the Ivy League system, she must be intellectually inferior as are her “bot” supporters. Guess what- most of the country didn’t come through that system, either. We manage to make it through life anyway, and are much more resourceful and determined than the elitists. We know how to actually work.

In a nutshell: We’re not a cult; we are mainstream, orthodox, and Scripturally- based.

We are not rebels; we are restorative and Constitutionally-based

We are Free People; who think for ourselves, reject the elitists and have the will to defend this Republic against the many challenges, internal and external.

God Bless Sarah Palin!

Another corny analogy...

We are backed up against our own goal line. Looks like we are going to get the ball back. The announced candidate can at best knock out a couple of first downs and move the chains. That isn't good enough. We need someone who can shift the field. Back the other side up.

I see nothing in the histories of the announced candidates, save Mr. Cain, that indicates they can do that. We will get 4 years, maybe 8, but in short order after that we will be right back where we are now. Depressing thought, but that is how I see it.

That is why I support Governor Palin. She is a game changer. Period.

The elite are in for another pointed surprise come 2012.

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE AWAKE, and are not going to be cowed or bullied. Change is coming alright...but it a change back to the foundational principles that defined this nation and its liberty and free market.

The establishment considers us heretics. john mccain tried to compare us to hobbits...not considering that without the hobbits, the war would have been lost. I AM a heretic. I escaped the bonds of the republican party hacks and good old boy network and I am damned proud of it.

A “cult” is a heretical religious group, straying from the sound doctrine of the orthodox mainstream.

Like most words, "cult" has more than one meaning and common usage. It can also be: "great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a book or film)..."

Not saying there is a "Palin cult", but there could be as there could be a cult surrounding other political figures. I just refer to her "ardent supporters" which is accurate and not uncomplimentary as cult and Palinistas would be to many.

We also heard frequent use of "Peronistas" during the 1992 campaign. I don't think such terms try to tag someone as socialists, but merely as fanatic followers of some person or movement.

Then there are those of us who are not anti-Sarah, but if we bring up what we think are honest issues or concerns or that if we just happen to like another politician, are relentlessly attacked by certain Palin supporters, who claim to be part of Middle America.

Keep in mind, not all of us who are Perry supporters, hate Palin.

When I read some of the nasty remarks about Sarah(posted by Republicans) I am shocked..I can understand maybe not wanting to vote for her(Which is fine, everyone has a right to vote for and support whoever they like) but the hatred for her, its disgusting..I expect it from the left, they are supposed to hate her(If they liked her I would be worried LOL) but the hatred from the right, its mind boggling. What the hell did she ever do to anyone to deserve such hate. When I read some of these nasty comments, I close my eyes and swear I’m on the Daily Kos web site. The main objective is to get Obama’s ass out of office, not fighting amongst each other.

Palin supporters won’t bow down to their favorite candidates.

Bingo.

Hey, if Sarah Palin runs, she gets some of my money and my vote. If she decides to not run, some one else will get my vote and no money until I see what they are about. Is this to difficult to understand? I guess it is to all the press, perry, romney, paul, etc... /bots! Go Sarah!

I agree..the same people who call us “Cult members” also call us “worshippers” its just used to piss us off and drive a wedge between us..its to put us down and frankly I’m sick of it. I don’t worship ANYONE..I support Sarah Palin because I think she is a good human being who would make a great President..and I hate it when I hear someone call a Palin supporter a worshipper..its only done to put us down

Good point.

Except honestly, I don’t think any true conservatives “hate” any other true conservatives.

What we’re seeing is far more Machiavellian than hate.

What we’re seeing, is smears.

It is the moral low ground of Saul Alinsky and the communists. Ronald Reagan had an additional commandment for just this.

How about we all reflect on his suggestion.

Has anyone posted anything on the PPP poll from North Carolina that shows Palin now leading Obama by 14 point among Independants?

I was in Indianola, IA on Saturday to witness this phenomenon for myself. I have NEVER seen anything like it.

Me too. Haven't been that soaked since my "Army days". But I kept waving my TEA party flag!

If there is a Palin cult, it’s fair to say there is an Obama cult, a Romney cult, a Perry cult and so forth.

“but are supporters of Palin’s policies”

That's the key. It's the message; not the medium.

We are excited to think our nation can be saved and renewed.
Had Barack Obama been born in a different environment (and had a 180 degree different belief system) and was delivering the same message; we would be just as excited to support him.
