Austin Freepers, Please help. Son going into Navy...

Dear Freepers,

I really need someone's assistance. One of my sons has signed up to go into the Navy. He has some VERY high aspirations and the drive and physical ability to attain those goals.

Need assistance helping him transfer his work skills to Austin near Town Lake to be near training facilities: Excellent waiter/busboy at several different jobs already, construction, carpenter's helper, etc. The young man needs to be able to have some flexible hours to have morning available to swim and run (which he has been driving to Austin to do) AND then go to work -- which he handles beautifully.

Need assistance finding a room to rent (we are faithful, church-going people and he will not present problems, but will be of assistance where he lives -- no drinking/smoking/etc. at all). Any help in this matter will be most appreciated -- he needs to train NOW. Thanks.

TOPICS: Military/Veterans
KEYWORDS: austin; military; navy; rentroom
Send me private message and I will send you a phone number/e-mail for contact. Thanks.

The Navy is going to train your son if he can pass the physical and other tests.

Just emailed my dad - he said there’s tests they give to determine ability. I’m sure he’ll do just fine.

One can enter the Navy and at the same time hold a civilian job on the “outside?” Boot camp was a lot different for me.

My Son joined while he was still in High School. For the several months until he went to boot camp, the Navy recruiter organized PT days at one of the parks nearby. That was the only prep that he did until he went in.

Five of them, all on the wrestling team, all joined together.
He is due out this November.

What program did your Son enlist for?

You need to know how to let go!...

He will find his way.. thats what the Navy is good at..
He may not even know what he wants to do until he sees the jobs close up..

The journey is more important than the destination..
Lighten up... smile.... be happy..

Trying not to be too specific. He REALLY needs to be in the Austin area to be able to train and not have to drive 60+ miles to get there. This is not your normal “going into the military” thing. Really need to find a room to rent and then he’s going to find work related to what he’s been doing or otherwise to pay his expenses THERE. Anywho...if someone is inclined to provide some contacts instead of pats on the back, we will be most grateful. Thanks.

Will look into that....

Oh, on the physical tests things -- he will exceed regular Navy tests....lol...that will not be an issue. He needs to train above and beyond....

No. He’s working now and training with fellow recruits. Enters in December and then it’s all Navy.

Tell him to stock up on a few items as he will need them. Sound powered phone batteries, padeye keys, and buckets of prop wash, they are hard to find but he will need them.

I personally recommend the technical ratings as US Navy Vet said, and have him volunteer for the Submarine Service for even more intense technical training.
