In order to make Intel's IDF 2011 parade a bit more sour, AMD announced that its yet to be released FX-8150 CPU was already overclocked to 8.429GHz, which earned the company the Guinness World Record for the highest achieved frequency.
AMD's own Sami Maekinen as well as Brian Mclachlan, Pete Hardman and Aaron Schradin had some fun with AMD's eight-core FX-8150 CPU. Just for reference, previous best AMD record was set at 7378.25MHz with the Phenom II 955 Black Edition. Of course, if you take a look at the CPU-Z screenshots, you will notice that the score was achieved with only two out of eight cores, but it is still an impressive result.
The CPU was ticking at 8429.38MHz (271.92x31) at 2.016V and overclocking was done on Asus' Crosshair V Formula motherboard with 2GB of Corsair RAM. Of course, we are talking about high-level overclocking with liquid helium, which isn't quite your ordinary overclocking material.
The record was scored back on August 31st but AMD managed to keep it a secret and "decided" to break the news today. Of course, the overclocking was done on an engineering sample and we are yet to see those CPUs in stores. October is the date we keep hearing, at least for now.

The density on the silicon has gone way, way up, and the extra techniques (besides the inevitable reduction in power requirements) used to avoid said noise helps overclockers as well.
I think...
Out of the MANY vid cards I’ve been through.. I have had 4 or 5 ATIs.. and every one of them fried within a month :/
nVidia cards, on the other hand, haven’t given me probs at all (for the last 10 or so years).. just normal wear and tear. I usually update my cards every 2-4 years, and I’ve only had 1 that went bad (was about 5 years ago).
I prefer AMD over Intel, so that is why I wish that AMD had nVidia... it would make it a bit more compatible, not that I have any real trouble with my setup now.. but I think, since they are made for each other (AMD/ATI), it would improve performance.
Oh well, we have to adapt as the tech scene changes..

BTW, what MoBo do you have.. I will look up some info and see if I can find something to help you out ;^)

Have you flashed to the newest BIOS for your MoBo?
If not, you should do that first.
(Is your CPU 125w or 140w?)
Also, do you know what make and model (wattage) your Power Unit is?
After you make sure you have the latest BIOS, check to make sure these 2 options are set:
Ec firmware [hybrid]
Acc [auto]
