Friday's - "Songs that will make a grown man cry thread" (vanity)

Posted on 09/16/2011 7:47:20 AM PDT by Scythian

Okay, I'll start off, this one really gets to me, here's a classic video in HD of Dan Hill singing "Sometimes when we touch" with the classic touch of being introduced by Wolf Man Jack, but then, it's hard to tell who is the real wolf man in this video. However, this is a great song nonetheless, go ahead and cry you big burly freepers, it's okay, it's been almost three years of Obama, you can always blame it on that if somebody see's you.

I am a woman but I can tell you the song that brings my husband to tears...Dancing With Cinderella, by Stephen Curtis Chapman. After Stephen’s daughter died in the horrible accident that song was heart-breaking enough, but then our older daughter picked that as her daddy-daughter dance at her wedding. If any man here who has a daughter doesn’t get misty-eyed over that song!

The name of the Mike & the Mechanics song is “The Living Years”. The Mercy Me song is “I can Only Imagine”.

Glad to help. :)

The Mike and the Mechanics song I thing you're thinking of is called “The Living Years”.

I love it but can't listen to it any more. That song was popular when my great father was loosing his battle with cancer.

"The Living Years" by Mike & the Mechanics

This song came out just after my father passed. Years later after my daughter was born, the lyrics hit even closer to home. It still makes me teary everytime I hear it.

Every generation blames the one before
And all of their frustrations come beating on your door
I know that I'm a prisoner to all my father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage to all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Oh crumpled bits of paper, filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations, I'm afraid that's all we've got
You say you just don't see it, he says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement in this present tense
We all talk a different language, talking in defense

(Chorus)
Say it loud (Say it loud), say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late (it's too late) when we die (oh when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future, it's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes you sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective on a different date
And if you don't give up and don't give in, you may just be OK

(Chorus)

Oh I wasn't there that morning when my father passed away
I didn't get to tell him all the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo in my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
