"Great story! None of our girls are that big. Gracie’s almost 16 hands, but sh’e not likely to get much bigger than that. She’s half thoroughbred, half American Cream drafter. She’s 4 years old and a beautiful champagne color. She’s our rescure from a couple of years ago."

We had a matched draft team of 1/2 brothers in Minnesota who were Quarter Horse and Percheron. About 1800 pounds each, about 18 hands. Wonderful, willing, hard-working team. Probably still working for the people we sold them to.

My wife thinks that the article just got the height wrong, as a quarter/Percheron cross would most likely not be 18 hands, as neither breed is a tall horse... She thought the photo looked about right for that sort of cross.

And yes, I have caught the Bud Clydes at the fair, several times... Quite amazing!

To see how big Percherons can get google Dr. LeGear at http://www.ruralheritage.com/horse_paddock/horse_large_lg.htm

He was 21 hands tall. Hitch geldings commonly stand 19 hands, and working Perchrons (the kind we raise) are usually 16 or 17 hands.
