There is one incontestably great actor on the world stage today, and he has no interest in following our script. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin soon to be Russias president again has proven remarkably effective at playing the weak strategic hand he inherited, chalking up triumph after triumph while confirming himself as the strong leader Russians crave. Not one of his international peers evidences so profound an understanding of his or her people, or possesses Putins canny ability to size up counterparts.
In the decade since assuming power from Boris Yeltsin, Mr. Putin has closed every avenue through which people might peacefully and legally select or even affect their government. Political parties are his plaything. Television networks are under state control. Demonstrations are banned or tightly circumscribed. The judiciary is cowed. In many ways, Mr. Putin has recreated the Soviet system, down to the ludicrous displays of adulation from the audience at his party congress Saturday.
"the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the [20th] century" -Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the collapse of the Soviet Union...
"World democratic opinion has yet to realize the alarming implications of President Vladimir Putin's State of the Union speech on April 25, 2005, in which he said that the collapse of the Soviet Union represented the 'greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century.'

Did Communism Fake Its Own Death in 1991?
American Thinker ^ | January 16, 2010 | Jason McNew
In a [] 1984 book [New Lies for Old], ex-KGB Major Anatoliy Golitsyn predicted the liberalization of the Soviet Bloc and claimed that it would be a strategic deception. ..."
"Golitsyn's argument was that beginning in about 1960, the Soviet Union embarked on a strategy of massive long-range strategic deception which would span several decades and result in the destruction of Western capitalism and the erection of a communist world government."
"Golitsyn published his second book, The Perestroika Deception, after the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991. This book contained further analysis of the liberalization, in addition to previously classified memoranda submitted by Golitsyn to the CIA. The two books must be read together to get a complete picture of Golitsyn's thesis."

The difference this time is the man Putin. He learned, watched, waited. He has solidified his power and will be a presence on the world stage for a long time.
She is going to need some serious advisatory help, as just about any candidate would. Folks very knowledgeable on Russia and their tricks. People like Fred Thompson, Dick Cheney, etc.
The US media has no clue. They eagerly plant photos of the Russian Marxist “Action Man” biking, flexing and posing.
Reminds me of the wussy UK press’ portrayal of Prince Charles during his pre-Diana period.
Our ‘free press’ is a tool box of fools. No depth, no digging, no dedication, no duty.
In time, Russia will collapse. And it will be nearly complete. Guys like Putin are milking a dying country. There are ample natural resources to cash in on but the demographics are rotten. The population is getting older fast. The young women that are there either want out or don't want to be tied to a local alcoholic. The place has 15 years. Maybe.
Besides their own ample resources, they will take other nations' resources when they begin expanding again.
“Our land is great and rich, but there is no order in it. Come to rule and reign over us.”
Demographically dying countries don't expand anywhere.
I think your question is moot, b/c she’s not going to run, IMHO.
Imho, Bush completely underestimated this brutal man. It’s understanding, but unfortunate.
They'll try. And they'll run out of ramp.
I'll kinda miss the *Batman and Robin* images of Putin & Medvedev.
