Living faces for a change on US stamps: Postal Service wants to know who you want to see
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Who would you put on a stamp? Charlie Sheen? Lady Gaga? Yourself?
Hoping to boost sagging revenue, the U.S. Postal Service on Monday abandoned its longstanding rule that stamps cannot feature people who are still alive and is asking the public for suggestions.
It's a first that means living sports stars, writers, artists and other prominent -- or not-so-prominent -- people could take their places in postal history next to the likes of George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., and Marilyn Monroe.
"This change will enable us to pay tribute to individuals for their achievements while they are still alive to enjoy the honor," said Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe.
But it seems to be at least as much about money as admiration.

how does featuring anything or anyone on a stamp boost revenue? That reminds me....standing in line at the post office while some numb skull tries to make up their mind what stamp they want. Jeesh, make them all the same. It's a fricken stamp.

Put me on the stamp! And not just any stamp, I want these to be the old-time lick-’em, stick-’em type! And then, only allow these to be sold to liberals!
That way they can all lick my butt!

The technology is there to allow people to upload images of themselves and to order ‘vanity stamps’. They could see them at a premium and help put some money into the Post Office coffers.

That’s a great idea. Even though I don’t use stamps that much I would upload my kids and the Yankees.

Hitler demanded that stamps be issued with his likeness, as a propaganda tool. Prior to him Germany stuck with the dead and zeppelins.
I'm sure the postal monopoly would not start putting prominent Dems on stamps...

[ Put Rush Limbaugh on the Forever stamp. ]
OMG, doing that is one of the only things that would allow the post office to become financially solvent again.
Anyone know where to buy Ronald Reagan Forever stamps, can you still buy them anymore?
