'Let's Talk' iPhone 5 Is A Game Changer

The official announcement for the October 4th iPhone event has been sent out to the media in the form of a 'Let's Talk iPhone' invitation. Wall Street has not yet caught on to the fact that this iPhone upgrade is an absolute game-changer. Consensus opinion remains severely off track with the expectation that this new phone will have a better camera, be a little faster, and look the same as the iPhone 4. The truth is that this iPhone 5 upgrade is the most significant upgrade to the Apple ecosystem since the initial launch of the product back in 2007. Wall Street will soon catch on to the reports being leaked to tech publications.

Consider the ramifications of the following iPhone 5 elements:

• Why did Apple use the phrase 'Let's Talk iPhone'? Because this is the first phone that will integrate the Siri voice assistant technology that Apple purchased in April 2010. The implementation of this voice technology is the biggest thing that has happened to smart phones since they first implemented touch screens. . .

  The Siri voice control system allows users to instruct the iPhone to 'sent a text message to Jason Schwarz asking him meet me for lunch'. Think about this capability in terms of safety. We all know that too many drivers send and receive text messages, now they will be able to safely operate an iPhone in the car. The voice assistant adds a layer of intelligence as well. If I ask my iPhone to 'call Dad' it might ask me whether it should dial his home phone or his mobile. It is also able to perform Web based search functions such as 'book a table for two at 9:00 tonight' or 'send a taxi to my house'. . .

That statement is exactly what M$ used when a new technology was announced, they were always going to have something better next month, but unless they could buy the company, it would never come about. Vaporware was the term used.

It always amuses me to watch people who really could care less, just swarm these threads that are for people who are interested in Apple products, only to complain or brag.

Who cares don't buy their product no one cares, what you do with your money. Me I buy Apple because I have gotten too old to mess with the rapid changes. The last three or fours have reduced me to eMail and web, the iPad is perfect for that.

A Mac mini attached to my big screen gives me internet TV and all that, plus I use it with a Bluetooth keyboard and pad. I don't use a mouse anymore because what I do now doesn’t require precision.

Now leave me to suffer my own misery, I don't need yours a well.

I also bought the $50.00 3GS and we will be able to get the IOS5 upgrade free in Oct. more cool features....check them out on the Apple website......

Well..except for the 425,000 apps in the Apple App Store versus 30,000 for Android. Then there's the unequaled iOS user interface. Also, most apps for iOS are better layed out and more polished than the Android equivalent, due to Android fragmentation among many disparate hardware designs.

Oh, and then there's customer satisfaction, with every survey showing iPhone owners are much more satisfied with their devices than Android owners.

ChangeWave Research also looked at OS customer satisfaction ratings based upon the operating system consumers have on their smart phones, and once again Apple is the clear leader – with 70% of customers using the iOS saying they are Very Satisfied.

I'm glad Android is there, as it is spurring Apple to continuously exceed its already very high standards for product excellence. A true win for the consumer!

While I agree buying a new phone every few months is extravagant & not something I would do, the “phone” has become so much more.

Please see my reply #20 for just a very, very small sample of what a “phone” can do.

If you travel much it is indispensable. The fact that it “knows” where you are (GPS) & “knows” what is around you in terms of businesses, products, & services is only a partially tapped wonder. Connection to the Internet gives you pretty much everything else. Voice commands for many apps make it easy to use.

I have 2 macs and wrote 10 iphone apps but tested them on an ipod... I don’t need navigation or apps. I average 10 bucks a month in minutes. way less expensive than smart phone.

Yep. I went to the store to get a phone that was more readable & had a better speaker. The sales lady sold me a pocket sized, magic box - cheap - that was also a phone. Thank you, lady - I forgot her name.

I am still astounded at the power I possess, even sitting in a MacDonald's parking lot. If I could set phasers on stun it would be near perfect.

I am still a little uncomfortable using it around other people. They look at you like you are playing some dumb game or listening to rap music. Forget games & music, I am watching my dwindling portfolio, looking for a restaurant, or reading a good book. Dumb phone games are for the truly unmotivated.

objective C... abandoned it a few months back due to issues with ad companies (ad supported free apps) ... as you said, 90,000 apps, so hard to break through... cheers.

I bought a 3GS 3 years ago! It changed my life. Now I own Mac mini, Mac book pro , a new Ipod4os and Ipad2. I never had a virus yet. In winEXP always a virus.

A voice recognition lock/unlock for my Iphone. I don't see one in the itunes store.

The Pannous voice actions app for DROID already does most of what Siri does.

How widely usable is Pannous? I noticed that if it doesn't know how to do something, it simply passes the text into a Google search. I have it, but rarely use it, since for me it has usually been either just a glorified voice search (through Google), or just for basic phone commands. Neat for a little while, but it is actually simpler just to swipe.

I am just wondering if I haven't given it enough of a chance. I know it can do natural language queries (off of what database, I have no idea), but it rarely has what I ask for. Is there a large amount of functionality tied into it?

Voice Control has been a standard part of the iPhone for some time. This new addition is fare more comprehensive.
