WASHINGTON -- U.S. senators and health officials are taking on a baseball tradition older than the World Series itself: chewing tobacco on the diamond.

With the Series set to begin Wednesday between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, the senators, along with health officials from the teams' cities, want the players union to agree to a ban on chewing tobacco at games and on camera. They made the pleas in separate letters, obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press.

The letter was signed by Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, and fellow Democrats Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Senate Health Committee Chairman Tom Harkin of Iowa.

Yep, all Democrats.

As soon as the asshat in our White House stops smoking (illegally, I might add, in a federal owned building), then I'd start worrying about somebody else.

Howz' 'bout Nobama stop using our White House for a smelly ashtray!

Why does it not surprise me that my senior Senator from Illinois is behind this? What an idiot! I guess everything in the world is okey-dokey so he could address these more pressing matters.

My junior Senator from Illinois (Mark Kirk) is having a townhall meeting this Saturday. I’ll have to ask him about this.

I’d like to shove a Louisville Slugger up each Senators ass that supports this, with the promise to remove it once they read and follow the Consitution.

If whatever private organization runs professional baseball decides to do this on their own, fine...but keep the State out of it.

Senators need to focus on banning deficit spending. And while we’re talking baseball, Washington DC has lost two different teams named the “Senators”. One of them is now named “Texas Rangers” and is playing tomorrow night and has a few chawers on the team. Try that rule first with your latest team next year

If these asshats had their way, NASCAR cars would all be Yugos and Indy cars would have big rubber bumpers around them and would have a top speed of 15mph.
They cant allow any fun....they suck the life out of all things like a Vampire.
