FLASHBACK: Obama Says Raising Taxes Not About Revenue But About Fairness
Townhall ^ | Jul 15, 2011 | Katie Pavlich

Remember when President Obama was a U.S. Senator talking about how raising taxes is about "fairness?" We do. In the following clip, Charlie Gibson explains how history shows lowering the capital gains tax actually increases government revenue.

Gibson asks Obama, with the facts showing lower tax rates actually increase revenue, why raise the capital gains tax at all? Then Senator Obama responds by saying raising taxes is about fairness.

As much as I dislike taxes, the federal government has the authority to raise funds for lawful purposes. But there is no Constitutional authorization for it to promote redistributive “fairness.”

In other words, Obama would rather have his Marxist sense of “fairness” than higher government tax revenues. The Republicans ought to use this in the upcoming election campaign. This might seem nonsensical to even a Democrat.

I’ll take justice over fairness every day and twice on Sunday.

Well, if it’s only about fairness, then Obama DEFINITELY should support 999. Because it’s VERY fair.

That is why I posted it.

It defies all logic.

Everyone should send that clip to everyone they know.

Anyone who expresses the least bit of surprise, much less shock, at what this dangerous bumbler has pursued once in the Office of the President of the United States really didn’t pay one whit of attention beforehand.

Or else was completely dupable.

Fairness—my butt. It’s about playing some sort of crooked Robin Hood and turning the middle class into begging peasants.

Yeah. Obama’s fairness. Whatever that nebulous term may mean.

Stalin's fairness?
Mao's fairness?

I don’t dislike taxes. They are necessary to a certain extent and provide things that make my life better, like roads, fire protection, etc. What I dislike are excessive and unlawful taxes to fund the redistributive state. I say unlawful because I can read the US Constitution, but we all know the law these days is whatever the politicians and judges want to make it.

Whatever private property rights once existed have long since disappeared. The only remaining fundamental liberties, according to the left, are the rights to abortion and sodomy. That’s it. As for taxes, they can take whatever they want so long as a majority agrees. It’s like lions and sheep voting over what’s for dinner.

Our little Kenyan buddy is nothing if not fair. You’ll recall he went to Harvard, so he’s got to be, like, really really smart and also fair.

That's the argument that drove the debt ceiling debate to the edge.

Obama was never about increasing revenues, as Boehner learned in the "grand bargain" negotiations.

Yeah.

Not about business or fiscal responsibility.

It’s about fairness.
How do you negotiate with that lack of intellect?
