Some believe a mountain lion may be lurking in northwest Washington.
One neighbor described the creature as larger and wider than a deer, with the long tail of a cat.
Another woman said she was walking her dog in McLean Gardens at the edge of Glover Park when she spotted the large cat last week. The cat, which she believes is a mountain lion, ran off into some nearby woods.

A cougar thread!
As soon as I saw the headline I thought the same thing - cougar time in DC!
Let’s hope that it quickly develops a taste for Democrats.
I wouldn’t be surprised if environmental activists are secretly introducing wolves and cougars into the east.
I am hoping that the cougars, bears bobcats take over Central Park in NY. Right in the middle of the liberals homeland. Let them live with top of the line predators like they make those in the west do....a pack of wolves would be great in the park and definitely cut down on muggings...the muggers will become muggees and dinner..Its a win win situation for the rest of the country that has been forced to live with them and they are protected by those liberals so they cannot shoot them....
This line is so typical: “A spokesperson for the Washington Humane Society said someone may have been keeping the cat as a pet and then released it once they couldn’t take care of it anymore.”
Translation: we have no idea where this cat came from, so we are speculating (with absolutely no evidence) that it was a pet, since we adamantly refuse to admit that there are mountain lions east of the Mississippi.
If they don't smell good, then they probably don't taste good.
It wasn’t me!
Dang! Sounds like they could be in my neck of the woods. I am beginning to truly wonder if some group hasn’t released these animals. They are beginning to show up in Connecticut, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and D.C.?!!!
I'm with you on that!
Mountain lion??? It was probably a PUMA.
Mountain lion, Puma, Cougar... Mom doesn’t like this one bit!
LOL! Not the first time - when I was younger (in the ‘90s) we had mountain lion sightings elsewhere in the DC metro area.
DC has thousands of black squirrels that escaped from the zoo decades ago.
Also saw a white squirrel in the same area of DC on several occasions - so I looked it up. Sure enough it’s documented.

Heh! You must have read the New York State DEC website. “There are no cougars in NY!!” And they’ll prove it to you by going out wherever there aren’t any cougars and then saying, “See, no cougars!” These same idiots say that coyotes have always been in NY although there is absolutely no physical proof of that prior to the 20th century. (Reminds me of the FedEx commercial, “There Is No Eric Gustaffson!”)

One way of determining if a cougar found in the east was once captive would be to examine it for spay/neutering scars.
Chow down, pal.
