I was saying during when we were at war. Dock strikes come to mind, I think in 1943 or so. The US got people like Lucky Luciano to help in stopping them.
Luciano ostensibly had the boys make sure no sabotage, a la NORMANDIE occurred on the docks. The Mafia also supplied Union cards and other documentation for U.S Intelligence agents to infiltrate suspect businesses on the waterfront, and acted as an intelligence source itself.
Luciano also, allegedly, put the word out to the Sicilian Mafia to help the Allies when Operation HUSKY started. His initial intermediaries were Lansky, his lawyer, and ‘Socks’ Lanza. After he was moved to Great Meadows, Luciano may have met with Naval Intelligence reps himself.
