A three-year-old girl fended for herself for two days by eating cheese and leftover lasagne after her mother died suddenly.
Shylah Silbery, from Wellington, New Zealand, hugged her favourite toy - a teddy bear named Possum - as she waited alone in the house near her mother's body.
She was rescued when 28-year-old Lauren Silbery's brother alerted the authorities when he did not hear from his sister, whom he talked to every night.

Poor thing. This sort of thing happens all the time all over the world but every time I hear it bothers me. No politics here, just sadness. Prayers up
Same here. Years ago my cousin came home to find his toddler daughter playing alone. His wife had died of an undiagnosed heart condition.
Well done Possum.
So sad ... prayers for the family
I was either two or barely three years old at the time and had a similar experience (I’m not sure of the exact date, but know the time period because of other life events). Anyway, I was about two or so and I remember my mom lying on the floor. I vaguely remember crawling over to her from where I was playing, and that she was unresponsive. I grabbed the phone and tried to call someone for help, and I believe that it had to be that that phone had some type of speed dial (it was a new fangled touch tone), though my family swears that there was no speed dial at the time (maybe it was a miracle, either way, I’m grateful). Anyway, I ended up getting my mom’s best friend on the line, and after a ridiculous number of “Hello’s” and “Who’s this” on my part, I told him that “Mommy isn’t moving” (or something to that effect). He (the friend) called for an ambulance and they were able to save my mother. I don’t remember at this point (it’s been decades) what exactly happened medically with my mother, but it was something like a stroke or heart attack. I do know that her heart has stopped/had heart issues a number of times. Once, she did while getting an MRI a few years back, and luckily she was in the hospital at the time. It was very scary to me, and dramatic, and I feel for this child. My mom made it through, I cannot imagine what would have happened or how I would have been impacted if she hadn’t.

Yeah, it’s true. It almost happened to me (see post at #7), and I cannot imagine if my mother hadn’t have made it. God bless and care for all those that endure such a tragedy, and May He hold them in His hands, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Prayers lifted, and thanks given, for Possum and for the resilience of a child.
May God bless.

What an amazing story. God surely does look after children and you had a direct line that day.
RIP.
Yes, He truly is more wonderful than we can imagine! I know from the New Testament that Jesus loves little children, but I often think they are so much more special than we can understand. He truly does love the little children.
Very sad about the mother, but what a good girl to have the sense to feed herself and follow intructions to get the table to the door!
Old Chinese saying - “Man can plan, only Heaven permits”. God watched over you that day.
That is so sad about your cousin and her toddler daughter. May I be so bold as to ask if the little girl did okay? Does she still have that horrible memory? (if that is too personal... just ignore)
I don’t believe she recalls anything, though I don’t know her well as we live across the country from her. What I do know of her is that she’s doing OK. (She’s all grown up now, and is one of the best female rock climbers in the country!)
Thank you Liberty1970! I was truly hoping that she did okay. I don’t know if a child can have that horrible a memory somehow burned inside their brain. I hoped not and it sounds to me like she grew up to be a lovely woman.
