Climate Change: Rapid Spike in Carbon Dioxide Emissions Shocks Researchers
Der Spiegel ^ | 11/04/2011 | Gerald Traufetter and Christian Schwägerl

Posted on 11/04/2011 2:54:15 PM PDT by Olog-hai

International attempts at climate regulation have failed on a number of levels. With CO2 emissions rising much more than predicted between 2009 and 2010, the goal of capping global warming at a maximum of 2 degrees Celsius now seems elusive. But political interest in changing course has waned. …

…(T)he widespread indifference stands in disturbing contrast to the grim facts. According to the latest calculations of the US Department of Energy, CO2 emissions are rising sharply. Some 512 million more tons of greenhouse gases were emitted from smoke stacks, exhaust pipes and agricultural land. "That means we're beyond the scenarios with which we're calculating the further warming of the earth," (Jochem) Marotzke (head of the German Climate Bureau) says. "In light of these new figures, I can only hope that the feeling of fatigue evaporates."

The new numbers show the extent to which international climate policy has failed. At the first "Earth Summit" in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, the concentration of the greenhouse gas CO2 was at 360 parts per million (ppm). In the 20 years since, it has risen to 390 ppm—and there is no end in sight to the upward trend. Year after year, representatives from almost 200 countries negotiate over how much they'll have to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. These are mega-events, but the results remain meager. Expectations for the 17th World Climate Conference in Durban are among the lowest they've ever been. …

world population in 1992 was 5.4 billion. It just went over 7 billion.
a billion and a half more people exhaling from one end and producing methane at the other...never mentioned.

Bull$h!t. The world economy was in a horrid downturn during this period and should have actually produced less.

This study is BS. No way we are producing more CO2 with a world economy that has crashed. Absolutely impossible. Economies have been drastically slowed. No one has been experiencing significant growth. This is all based on a number calculated by cronies. People bought and paid for by the vast AGW lobby.

Has someone demonstrated conclusively that the amount of CO2 in the earth’s atmosphere has the capacity to absorb enough solar long wave back radiation to significantly affect the temperature of said atmosphere? Is radiation absorption saturation being considered?

Golly, all those emissions and not a bit of warming for the last ten years. Imagine that. The correlation doesn’t appear to be too good.

Exactly. Now initially I thought maybe the measured Global Cooling we have been experiencing that past decade has caused more human produced CO2 because we are trying to stay warm during winter. That increase however should be offset by less carbon production during summer and fall.

Anyone promoting this story is a crony. IE - Lying sack of poop.

Its a logarithmic response curve. We simply wont get much more direct warming from increasing CO2 levels now. What they count on is mythical positive feed back via an increase in water vapor due to the increased warmth from the CO2.

With global warming more people are drinking beer and the CO2 is being released. It’s the Global Beer Fizz Effect.

Not a soul has, thus far. On top of that, the IPCC's "climate models" exclude H2O, which distorts their results, and uses CO2 as their "base" as though there were no water vapor in the atmosphere, which is junk science.

Way too much emphasis on a gas that consists of a mere 39100,000 of the atmosphere.

yep, and from all the evidence, feedback is turning negative. More storminess (e.g. increased rainfall) is a negative feedback. Storm tracks further south is negative and blocking patterns such as the ones that cause extreme rainfall in one area and heat waves / drought in another.

The world economy was in a horrid downturn during this period and should have actually produced less.

We have, at least when measured at the official Mauna Loa measurement site. The weekly reading http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends/weekly.html shows a 1.4 ppm increase from a year ago (1.4 ppm per year), but 20 ppm increase from 10 years ago (2ppm per year). Clearly the rise in CO2 is slowing.

Interesting, thanks for the co2 spike info. I wonder what causes that? If only there were enough scientists left over from trying to prove evolution and glowbull warming to actually study what is going on out there.

I hate science that ends every supposition with a period instead of a question mark.

Well, at least the last sentence is true, though certainly not the way these clowns want people to understand it.

Indeed, if there is one thing that Marotzke is sure of, it is this: "The laws of nature will continue to function without remorse no matter what mankind does or allows."
