"It is requested that everyone maintains a level of silence and respect",says the soldier as he stops in stance and demands silence from a disrespectful crowd w/ rifle out front.

Very interesting. Wonder how often a reprimand like this is required.

I saw something similar one time. It was the sergeant of the guard during the changing of the guard.

It is a shame that a reprimand is required - people ought to know better than show disrespect while at the tomb. It is a place for silence and deep contemplation about the lives that soldiers especially the unknown have sacrificed.

Sad state of this nation that as our soldiers die on battlefields abroad, a reprimand like that is needed. No excuse for laughter.

IIRC, they ask for silence and respect to a new audience at every changing of the guard; not in the middle of the walk.

I am impressed - I never knew if they were allowed to take action, or were supposed to ignore folks like the guards at Buckingham Palace.
Well, I guess he answered that.
I also wonder if they carry live rounds.

Back in the ‘70s it was rare. 21 steps....21 seconds over and over. I’m sure they relish the chance to stop and chew some butt. I was only 5’10 so Tomb Guard was out of my qualifications. I did command the number one casket team though.

From the official site:
“Only under extraordinary circumstances will the guard speak or break his silence. The guard will issue a warning if anyone attempts to enter the restricted area around the Tomb, but first will halt and bring his rifle to port arms.”
Every time there’s a change of the guard, a request is issued to the public attendees for respectful silence.
It’s not as if they weren’t warned.

Yeah - this wasn’t the standard statement they give, it was later in the drill...

Just sad that it had to come to him taking action.
People have become so disrespectful.

I witnessed a similar episode at the Arizona Memorial involving an older Navy vet and some teen/early 20’s Japanese tourists. Little punks got really quiet, really quick. My now-ex GF and I took said vet and his wife out for drinks later that evening. I got a mild lecture about cohabitaion but I know now I deserved it. FReegards, SirL
