Manny Pacquiao Defeats Marquez, Again (Sellout crowd unconvinced of narrow victory)

Manny Pacquiao escaped Saturday night with a win at the MGM Grand arena in a decision that left Juan Manuel Márquez fuming once again.

The Filipino sensation, considered the world's best pound for pound fighter, was taken to the limit before winning a majority decision that infuriated Márquez and most of the sellout crowd. While close, the win helped Pacquiao continue a remarkable run that has made him the most exciting fighter in the sport.

In a bruising battle against a counterpuncher who was both accurate and fast, Pacquiao needed the final round on two scorecards to pull out the win. He got it, even though a third judge scored the round in favor of Márquez.

As boos — and cans and bottles — rang down on the ring, Pacquiao celebrated another victory and another huge payday.

"My fans are very happy because they thought I won," Pacquiao said.

He did, but on the narrowest margin. That, perhaps, was to be expected considering the previous 24 rounds the two had fought were just as close.

Pacquiao won on two scorecards, while the third ringside judge had it a draw. It was a narrow escape for the Filipino congressman, who took as much punishment as he got over 12 rounds, and Márquez was so upset he stormed from the ring.

"This was the second robbery and this one was the worst," Márquez said. "We won with clearer punches."

I saw it. Manny won. Marquez had to take the title and he in no way did. he fought a tough fight but he certainly didn't take the title.

Brazilian Dos Santos over Cain "Brown Pride" Velazquez was a beautiful knock out. Cain got a well deserved beating.

The challenger has to BEAT the champ. When in doubt, the champ gets the benefit of the doubt.

I’m not a fan of that other fight, I think it’s too brutal, but, I’m glad Dos Santos won. That other idiot, who I think was born in the USA came out all adorned in the mexican flag and to some stupid mexican song, while our military guys were in the audience wondering...WTF?!! While Dos Santos came out to the ROCKY song!! I was rooting for the Brazilian! BOY IT PISSES ME OFF when American born boxers disgrace or belittle the American flag!! I’m glad the other dude won! As far as Marquez, I saw the fight and he was ROYALLY ripped off!! I’m surprise there wasn’t a riot after the decision!

Joe Frazier’s passing, reminded me why I don’t care for boxing anymore.....boxers today aren’t worthy of shining Smokin’ Joe’s shoes.

My brother’s in-laws are Filipino and got to watch it for free (free booze and food too..who would say no?). I thought that Marquez won the first 10 rounds, but as Dan Rafael succintly said, if his “hall of fame’ manager did NOT tell him that he won the fight in the 11th..he would’ve won or worse, draw. Rafael was correct: you don’t tell your fighter he’s won it until the final bell.
