Thieves have snatched a copper sword from the burial site of president Abraham Lincoln, one of the most revered leaders in US history, local media reported.

The roughly three-foot (90-centimeter) sword was brandished by the statue of a Civil War artillery officer at the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site, located in Springfield, Illinois.

The sword was broken off at the handle, The State Journal-Register reported Friday.

The theft was apparently the first since 1890, when the same sword was stolen from the statue, the newspaper said. At that time, the sword was made of bronze that largely came from melted-down Civil War cannons.

More hope and change from our criminal elements. What gets me is the crime’s time frame - September to early November. You’d think that they’d try to enlist the help of photo sharing sites to at least narrow down the date of the theft. I spent a couple minutes and found a picture of it still on the statue on September 20th.

May I suggest the same type of individual that can see no harm in a manufactured right to kill the unborn and votes entirely a straight ticket for the party of generational genocide.

replace the sword with an inexpensive, painted metal blade. If you tempt a thief with anything of value, he will steal it.
