PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- The Charlotte County School District released a copy of its investigation into Charlotte High School math teacher Jeff Spires. The report details statements from students and Spires, who confess to taking part in grade-changing for money.
According to the documents, an eleventh-grade student first brought forward allegations that Spires was selling grades on October 14.
In the investigator's report, he says that student told the school's principal Barney Duffy he had bought several favorable grades on quizzes. The district released some of the student's exams. One one of them the student wrote "I paid coach $40.00 cash for this quiz. I paper clipped two 20.00 dollar bills to the quiz."
The district's investigator also questioned Spires, who admitted to selling grades.
In one instance, the investigator writes Spires said he took about $60-70 from an eleventh-grader twice, in exchange for good grades. Spires told the investigator students would turn in tests with money stapled or paper-clipped to the papers.
When asked why he did it, Spires is quoted as saying, "Maybe I see the kids as desperate as I am." The investigator says Spires "went on to say that he was in financial straits due to bankruptcy, arrests, and jail time."
Records from the Charlotte County Jail show Spires was booked three times there within the last two years. The crimes include DUI, driving with a suspended license, and probation violation.

This is news? This is your normal Democrat.
bet he’ll get protected by the union.....
Too stupid to teach anyone and could only be hired by a legally granted monopoly. I wonder if the union is going to grieve this unfair firing?
He’s allowed to teach children with a record like that?
LIB MANTRA: ‘it’s for the children’
I admire the teacher’s sense of purpose. Most men would have just settled for changing the grades for sex.
At least we know he’s a capitalist. :)
Where was this guy when I was slogging through Algebra. If there was no curve I would have flat lined.
He was not fired. The video report said he was going to resign.
Will the IRS come down on him for underreporting his income?
Another one. This isn’t even funny anymore.
