Three captured; one on the loose
Animal control officers captured three of four pit bulls believed to have killed 42 goats in a Los Angeles-area farm.
The goats were slaughtered on a property at 164th Street and Avenue Q Monday in Lancaster, county officials said. "It appears that the pack mentality set in in this particular incident," Aaron Reyes, deputy director of the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, told the LA Times.
Reyes said the dogs were captured Monday night. "They just fed off one another's energy and mischievous behavior," he told the paper.
Animal control officers are searching for a fourth pit bull and the owner, said Danny Ubario, manager of the Lancaster Animal Care Center. The dogs appeared to be strays because they were running loose without collars or tags, Ubario said.
The carcasses were taken to an animal shelter for disposal.
Not that I would particularly defend put bulls, but if the dogs were “wild” and running in a pack, I am not sure the breed is that significant. ?
If you’ve ever raised goats, you understand why.
Thank goodness it wasn't "a lethal attack by a pack of bloodthirsty, semi-feral dogs".
Something like that could easily get out of hand.
Never owned a goat, but I totally understand them being like your kids.
I wouldn’t mind owning a mini goat, they’re cute7.
Translation: They were wild pack of vicious dogs.
Nanny goats are OK but Billies are God’s cruel joke.
Chet 99 ping...
LOL - but not necessarily. We had a couple of (very dysfunctional looking) people sentenced to a trivial penalty here in Florida today...after their pits killed the 74 yr old next door neighbor while he was out gardening. They ripped one of his arms off, chewed on the other, and killed him by tearing the back of his head open.
The owner was a corrections officer at the local state pen, and had already received 2 citations for attacks by his vicious dogs, both of which required the hospitalization of the victims (who were just innocent passers by). I think the sheriff in that county has some ‘splainin to do. And the DA should also have to explain why they were not charged with manslaughter or negligent homicide.
My Pittie is afraid of our cat....
If that 74 yr old blew the dogs brains out, he’d be in deeeeeeep doo doo.
Egregious Idiocy Alert! ! !
Straight from the article: “It appears that the pack mentality set in in this particular incident,” Aaron Reyes, deputy director of the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, told the LA Times.
The Animal ‘Control’ chappy either does not know the correct term is “killing frenzy” or refuses to use.
Ossifer’s dogs are a protected class, fer sure!
I’ve told this story before but may be worth repeating. When I was a kid, there were several incidents of “mysterious” killings of horses in our neighborhood. No one knew what the heck was going on... what could kill a horse? Well, the neighborhood found out. In the morning, it was common for everyone to let their dogs out to do “their business”. What they didn’t know was the neighborhood dogs met and formed a pack and went hunting together as a pack. All types of dogs, too. Poodles, mixed breeds, husky, lab etc. Not one of these dogs was violent at home. Something happens to a dogs brain when they form a pack... something going back to the wild.
Probably. All the pet lovers from the nearest big town (ultra-liberal Gainesville) would have been up there holding vigils for the dogs.
Humans, too.
