Global Warming we can all cheer

You can be forgiven if you didn’t know that we’re in the middle of an ice age right now, what with all the talk about global warming. But it’s true. We’re in what geologists call “the Quaternary glaciation,” an ice age that’s lasted for the past 2.5 million years.

Ice ages last a very long time, with periods of extreme cold punctuated by warmer periods, or interglacials. We’re in such an interglacial right now: The Holocene epoch began about 12,000 years ago. It’s best thought of as a brief respite from the most severe ravages of Quaternary ice

Good article. Common sense, which is something that Al Gore and his acolytes in the Church of Global Warming™ have none.

Just 10,000 years ago, there was a mile of ice covering Buffalo, NY. Think of that. An ice sheet a mile thick. The ground is still rebounding from all that weight.

The great lakes are the puddles left over from all that ice melting...

And we’ve suffered the horrors of global warming every since Buffalo thawed. Imagine the complaining when it freezes again.

It started out when the Natives began using camping fires, accelerated through the Industrial age and into the 20th Century when automobiles finally contributed enough heat and energy to melt the monstrosity.

You are right. People are really going to complain when it re-freezes.

Human beings have been around a lot longer, but the entire time of human civilization is crammed into that brief 12,000 years since the glaciers receded. A return of the continental glaciers would be a real catastrophe far exceeding the absurd fantasies of the global warming cult.

Our noble natives didn't just use fire for camping, they used it for neighbor control and even some rudimentary rain cloud management. With cloud control it's possible to regulate the climate. It's bunk that we're between ice ages. As long as modern man inhabits Earth we'll never have another major ice age or hot age again. Soon we will never be hit by another major asteroid. With fracking technology might be even regulate earthquakes to manageable levels.

4km of ice over Kansas. Long Island is a glacial moraine. The “buffalo wallows” (playa lakes) that cover the Texas Panhandle are dimples (like a golf ball) formed by the high winds created by the heat gradient caused by the glaciers to the north. Rocks and boulders pop up in farm fields every year across the plains, remnants of the pressure exerted by the ice. Glaciers to return one day. I took the threat of an imminent ice age in the 70s much more seriously than the AGW crap they’ve tried to feed us. And I knew MMIA was also crap.

Only if we keep developing our technology. We do not have the technology to prevent the next ice age at this moment, though we are close. We need to develop commercial space transportation systems and start to exploit the resources of the solar system. Right now we, literally, have all our eggs in one basket, the Earth.

If we can keep accelerating our technological advances for only another 20 years, we will be able to stop an ice age from happening. Unfortunately, there is a large movement that is completely determined to stop all technological advance, at least in the free world.

30 years ago I read about a plan to counter global cooling. It was a system of satellites with huge mirrors to reflect more sunlight to the earth.

Global cooling is the real problem.

This is very close to a quote from Larry Niven’s “Lucifer’s Hammer”, where they are worried about a global ice age AND running out of oil that prevents it from coming.

Why would God let the Earth turn into an ice cube? Is He tired of the humans?

I have read most of Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle’s books. Lucifer's Hammer is one of my favorites.

If you want to read fun read about “global warming” read Fallen Angels by Niven and Michael Flynn.

He has given us free will and the tools to stop it. Perhaps the rest is up to us.
