Man Survives Staple Gun Injury to the Head

A construction worker is on the mend after a three-inch metal staple penetrated his skull.

Shaun Hunter, 27, has two holes in his head, but lived to tell the story of a bizarre work site accident that happened when a co-worker's staple gun accidentally triggered.

The staples pierced the frontal lobe of Hunter's head, an injury, if not deadly, potentially paralyzing neurologically.

Miraculously, Hunter's only pain came after the surgery to remove the staple.

"I would say I'm just lucky. God was looking out for me. That and a good doctor," he said.

No blood vessels were perforated and there has been no impact to his brain. While doctors have seen similar injuries, they say they haven't seen such a good outcome.

"I've seen it, but not to the extent of a patient doing so well. This young man had no neurological defects, other than the headaches," said Dr. Fernando Silva, neurosurgeon.

Hunter is set to return back to work in a month.

"I think I'm pretty lucky, I'm thankful to be here," he said.

Okay, the big question here is:

What super powers has he gained as a result?

I don’t want to try too hard to visualize how he could have his head that close to a 3” staple gun. Glad the guy’s going to be OK.

This crap happens all the time. I used to sell air nail and staple guns for the manufacturer. I remember hitting a job site of a framing crew. 9 times out of ten, these dudes still had a load on from the night before and a few hard core dudes were just cracking one open at 9AM. I was talking to the guy running the site when one of these geniuses nailed his foot to the floor laying down sub flooring. Somehow he missed bone. What a jackass.

A variation of this happened to me. My coworkers staplegun jammed and the staple disintegrated. A piece of shrapnel bounced off of my safety glasses and stuck me in the eye. I was rushed to the hospital where they removed the metal fragments.

Yark!

Been there done that.

They had to remove about 20 pieces of metal from my eyes and then grind the rust rings out of my corneas

Stories like this remind me of why I’m a PhD, not an MD. It allows me to be a medical professional without seeing all the yucky medical stuff.

I know a carpenter that nailed his p***s to his leg. His young helper laughed all the way to the hospital. Actual, I had a good laugh when I heard too. I have a framing gun now, and I respect it big time.
