Just a vanity to thank JimRob for Free Republic and the Religion Forum, to thank the Religion Moderator for all the hard work, to thank God for the freedom of religion we have, and to offer a community prayer for all FReepers for health, safety, prosperity, joy, and God's blessings throughout the coming year.

I make no exceptions in my prayers that we all be blessed. Can we all just say, “Thank you God” today, please?

Yes, Nana! I got up way early to bake homemade bread today, no machine, and after morning prayers, thought it might be nice to share a plain, warm Thanksgiving prayer with the RF Friends today.

You left out the part about damning the Mormons to Hellfire.

Happy Thanksgiving to you Judith.
I agree, we have the best Religion Moderator, who does a great job balancing both sides of many issues.

You posted this in General/Chat so I can say this. I'll thank Jim Robinson for Free Republic - I'm a monthly donor - but the Mormon-bashing that regularly goes on in the Religion forum turns my stomach.

So no, I am not thankful for that and I wish it would stop.

I’m not Mormon but do agree that FR would be better without it since it seems to divide us rather than bring us together.

The genesis of that was actually political, I watched it form. Seems a perennial Presidential candidate got some polling data that indicated a fair amount of resistance among a certain group of vocal and very politically active Christians in a certain part of the country, so despite over a century of Mormon founders and leaders stating that Mormonism is not Christian, a concerted effort was launched to persuade the populace. Primary in that thrust was the FR religion forum. The most vocal in opposition have been former Mormons.

Me, I know Mormons and have befriended several, from the missionary decades ago who's now Christian and living in Arizona, to a well known science fiction author and political commentator living nearby. If that certain perennial Presidential candidate had actually lived up to the precepts of his religion instead of spinning like a weathervane, he'd have been in far better shape. Mormonism is inherently a force for conservatism, Harry Reid notwithstanding. It's unabashedly pro-American.

So, we have Mitt Romney to blame. Seems his people have a hand in much of the sourness infecting conservative blogs and forums these days. That's what you're seeing.

I give thanks for their being free to do so, as are we all to rebut it. That's the sound of free speech and freedom of religion.

On a different day I might have more to say about your post, but for today I will let "I disagree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it" suffice.

May you and your family have a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

I, too, am grateful for FR, Jim and the Religion Forum, but I’m put off by the vitrol that often passes as “compassion” and “teaching” on it. It’s probably just a lack of recognition that Jesus died for the same fellow who is being raked over the coals by another. But just the same, God’s blessings to you, our friends and our enemies for whom Jesus died. Plus our turkey just finished 2 1/2 hours early, so pray it will be still yummy in two hours.
