I would never describe Alekseyev as rotund. He was a massive bull of a man, built like Atlas must have been. None of the “cut” pretty boy build, but more of the look of a man that could eat armies.

Yep, heard him describe the perfect weightlifter once. He included the statement, "Must have belly that will stop bullet", and he certainly did. Nothing pretty about him, but he was the epitome of brute force in his day.

“Um... you know Atlas wasn’t a real guy, right?”

I thought Atlas was a book? Now I'm just confused...

“I would never describe Alekseyev as rotund. “

Raymond Chandler put it: “He was fat, but it was the kind of fat that doesn’t move”

Most modern day weight lifters, with a few months of training and dieting, could compete as bodybuilders. They are not nearly as "Fat" as they were back in the day. Alexeyev was definitely old school.

In his training manual, he said that he trained with 450 lb bench presses.

LOL, what were your thoughts watching the Olympics as to the phrase, “snatch”?

Man, how many Saturday afternoons did I see Alekseyev on Wide World of Sports. He dominated like few people ever have, in any sport, at any time.
