The big thing is that hockey players rarely have any of the off ice (or off field) issues we see in other sports. Aside from Bob Probert and Theo Fleury, I’m hard pressed to find any hockey criminals in the past 20 years.
Hockey players commit their crimes right there in the ring. Assault with a deadly weapon, battery, inciting a riot, attempted manslaughter etc.
There are a few more than that. Locally, (Boston) we had a player name Bill Tibbets who is constantly having run-ins with the law, he played off and on in the NHL. I remember when Jim Craig was convicted of drunk driving. Craig MacTavish (Boston Bruin at the time) killed a girl in a drunk driving accident and spent a year in jail.
Derek Sanderson didn't exactly live a clean life.
I played hockey and know many hockey players, we are no angels.
