I began listening to Vin Scully’s Dodger game broadcasts over KFI, at 640 kcs. in 1960.

good for you.....Vin is an OK guy.

but personally I would have to place Red Barber and Mel Allen (how about that!) at the top of that catagory.

With honorable mention going to Phil Rizzuto(HOLY COW!) and of course Harry Carray ( the original HOLY COW!) ....

I sure miss NBC baseball on Saturday mornings with Vin Scully and Joe Gargiola. It was back in the late 70’s early 80’s. I really enjoyed sitting home on Saturday mornings listening to them. Now who do we have, Tim Diareheaofthemouth on Fox. Yuck.

I don’t listen to many Dodger broadcasts, but have always enjoyed hearing Vin do other athletic events.

Scully is an undeniable great, but I always preferred the spare, elegant, understated style of the St. Louis Cardinals’ late legend Jack Buck.

Jack Buck was great. St. Louis to me is a hot summer evening with Jack Buck on KMOX.

Grew up in the 50s and early 60s with WPIX ... so I can't disagree.
That said - it's hard to say any ONE announcer is the best.
I listen to Scully (via the MLB package), and as good as he is ... he never shuts up!
