You cannot go wrong listening to posts #5 (find out his tastes, Scotch is a *very* personal choice) and post #37 (website describing Whiskey).
I've only recently begun imbibing Scotch: I like Balvenie but have heard good things about Glenlivet. If he likes a "peaty" flavor, Laphroaig is very good (I compare it to drinking find wood smoke, if you like campfires...)
By the way, I've been married > 25 years, so don't go all Herman Cain on me, but I've got to beat the other Freepers to the question:
