Review of Eastwood's J.Edgar [Yes, it is awful!]

Seventy years ago bombs fell on Pearl Harbor and tonight a big bomb was witnessed by me. Clint Eastwood has always made films as both an actor and director that had a redeeming value or a distinct point of view, but his latest effort on J. Edgar Hoover was totally wasted.

There is no doubt that bigger than life J. Edgar was not what his PR depicted and his failings on recognizing the true extent of organized crime until his nose was rubbed into the Mafia is a fact. His going outside the law of the land to catch both real and imagined foes of the United States is well known.

Hoover's secret files are both the subject of legend and myth while his vindictive nature is more than rumor.

He never married, lived with his mother until she died and had a 30 plus year relationship with Clyde Tolson, his number two at the FBI, that was was whispered to be more than friendship. His wearing of women's dresses has been the punchline of many off color jokes but never proven.

Yet his molding the FBI into a first class crime fighting organization cannot be made a joke and his agents did take down most of the criminals of the 1930s depression and more than their share of Nazi and Communist spy rings.

Now, with all that at your disposal, how in the world can Clint Eastwood make such a dull, boring two hour - 17 minute film?

The plot, if you can find it is jumbled by so much inter-cutting back and forth in time that even a copy of the screenplay would not help.

Yes, the homosexual storyline is there complete with a Dorothy Lamour inspired fight that leads to Clyde's kiss on J. Edgar's lips but even that is anti-climatic after all the winks and nudges that lead up to it. Even the dress wearing is there as he is all alone after his mother's death. Then to add to this, we have the older J. Edgar having regular Doctor Feelgood visits complete with a needle full of goodie juice. That is the overpowering thrust of the film, Hoover the closet-queen, junkie that only did what would glorify him.

There were 11 people in the theater for the 4PM showing I went to this afternoon and a couple got up and left just after the kissing scene. I wish I had gone with them but I rode that sucker out to the end so I could report back and maybe save other Freepers from a waste of 2 hours-17 minutes and the cost of a ticket.

Face it, Bendy, old Clint has finally... gone senile!

I'd rather believe... Clint was on a knee-knocking drunk during the entire filming.

I know after seeing J.Edgar... I'm going on a pretty healthy knee-knocker myself!

I was afraid of this, which is why I haven’t gone yet. Guess I won’t go at all, now. Thanks for taking on for the team!

Leonardo DiCaprio is the most boring person in the world. I fell asleep trying to watch Inception. What women see in him I have no idea.

Family and I were about to go see it this weekend. Thanks for the review. We’ll wait until Sherlock Holmes comes out on the 16th. Loved the last one.

Good Lord...what has happened to movies...

Anyhow, I won’t even entertain the idea of watching anything with Leo decapria in it, nor will I watch anything with men kissing in it, so yeah, this one ain’t even worth some popcorn ><

I saw it. Decaprio was good, but the rest was awful.

He’s one of those actors who opened his stupid mouth one too many times.

He got the big, red >< from me, along with Julia “The Teeth” Roberts, Morgan Freeman, George Cl...I better stop, the list is long.

J. Edgar Hoover has been a victim of the Big Lie technique. Although there’s no proof whatsoever that he was a sodomite, the lie has been repeated over and over so many times by his enemies that a lot of people now believe it.

People forget that Hoover rolled up the spy rings of the Axis powers during WWII. The fact that he began targeting Soviet spies after the war landed him in the doghouse of the Left.

I knew it would suck the moment I saw Leonard DiCrapio as Hoover.

But, honestly, what about any Hollywood release would lead you to think that any topic they deem “conservative” would get a fair hearing?

DeCaprio was good. The story line was awful and the supporting crew stunk.

I thought Eastwood went senile when he did the boxing movie about a girl fighting in the ring. Sad.

The list is long and getting longer. There is lots of entertainment that doesn't involve subsidizing (in any form) hateful brainwashed immoral morons. That includes corrupt and manipulative MSM networks and their anchors/stooges. The word "celebrity" is no longer meaningful (they're fortunate - for the moment - overhyped overpaid individuals).

I thought it was a good movie. The movie will get a win or two, but Leo will not get the Oscar. His makeup as was not as good as others when he was older.

Best Picture will go to The Artist, but I think many here will not like it because it would be too boring for them. The runner up should be Hugo. Scorsese should bring home another statue. Granted, I haven’t seen Warhorse or a few others yet.

I knew the moment I heard they were making a movie about J. Edgar Hoover that it would be a hit piece.

I fell asleep trying to watch Inception.

Me too! I highly recommend it for insomnia.
