Some such can carry some REALLY nasty microbes etc. . . . particularly in some states.
Thoroughly washing with a serious disinfectant after any contact might be quite wise.
NM has to be concerned about plague with rodents.
And IIRC, there’s also some concern about prion type diseases in eating Squirrels in some states.
