A 78-year old man is in the hospital following a hunting accident in Pasco County early this morning.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says that 2 friends and their bull dog went deer hunting early this morning. They were driving on a bumpy road when their dog got excited and bumped a Browning 308 rifle that was in the truck, causing it to discharge. The driver, Billy Brown of Dade City was shot in the right thigh above his knee.
The accident happened about a mile and a half into the woods from the intersection of Old Pasco Road and Gillette Road.
Brown was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital. As of 6 pm. hospital officials said Brown was out of surgery and in critical condition.
Investigators say the two men have been hunting together for over 25 years.
The investigation is still underway.
"Accident", that's what the dog wants you to think...
Gun loaded? Check
Round in chamber? Check
Safety off? Check
Muzzle pointed toward driver or passenger? Check
Bumpy road? Check
Excited dog? Check

I’ll bet the Chihuahua actually planned the whole thing! (They didn’t mention one in the story but I’m sure one was involved.)
My poor glasses ent me to this thread when I read that a bullfrog set off a gun. My Bad!

I read the same thing! I think that the mind sees “jumping” and “bull....” and fills in the rest.
This is the 2nd “dog shoots man” story in a week. The other one was in a boat.

This fella’s name wasn’t Jim Smiley, was it? From up in northern California? “He was the curiosest man about always betting on any thing that turned up you ever see, if he could get any body to bet on the other side; and if he couldn’t, he’d change sides.”
It’s the third one I’ve seen. The dogs are gettin’ angry.
