The New York Times today (12/11) confirms speculation about the deal for the Fox News personality to succeed Joe Crummey in the late-morning slot. Cumulus Co-COO John Dickey tells the Times that Rivera "brings balance to the discourse", at a station that prominently features conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Dickey says "people are interested in hearing a different perspective, a different voice, a more balanced opinion."
Geraldo himself says he'll use two slogans: "I'm Geraldo, and I'm not always right", and "Not red, not blue, but red, white and blue." Rivera started at Fox News in 2001 and just signed a new four-year deal as a weekend anchor and correspondent. Could a successful New York radio show for Rivera turn into a syndicated show, handled by Cumulus Media Networks? John Dickey tells the Times, "There certainly is potential to do more."
Seeing him do live storm reports made us cheer for the hurricane.
Left turn...say what you will about O’Reilly but I still remember the “shootout” (as Hannity would call it) BOR had with Whorealdo about immigration.
Pretty sure Rivera was a friend of John Lennon or at least interviewed him a few times on TV; AM 770 in NYC of course was “WABeatleC” in the 60s
Meanwhile for those who like Doug MacIntyre on Red Eye Radio, he’s been replaced by the Midnight Radio duo and Doug will soon be heard mornings on KABC in L.A.
Jeeeze.....
we don’t need Jerry Rivers...might as well be Ron Kuby or Alan Combes
Should be interesting learning the number of people who wish to tune in and listen to a moron speak for two hours.
I don’t see this hurting Rush.
“Not red, not blue but red white and blue.”
Sounds like another visceral, throbbing-veins leftist covering himself with stealth paint, attempting a run under the radar.
IMHO
“Red white and blue” may butt. He wouldn’t understand Conservative principals if he was at the Constitutional Convention.
KABC is a better gig for MacIntyre but I enjoyed him on overnights.
They can’t seem to get anyone to fit into that time slot. It failed for Curtis Sliwa, Joe Scarborough and John Gambling (who was the best of this lot). Crummy has been a disaster. And Geraldo will be worse.

Remember Al Capone’s vault? From the Wikipedia entry on that subject:
>>Geraldo Rivera had been fired in 1985 after criticizing ABC for canceling a report on an alleged relationship between John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe. He then hosted the special, The Mystery of Al Capone’s Vaults, which was broadcast live on April 21, 1986. The two hour special (including commercials) was greatly hyped as potentially revealing great riches or bodies on live television. This included the presence of a medical examiner should bodies be found and agents from the Internal Revenue Service to collect any of Capone’s money that might be discovered. When the vault was finally opened the only things found inside were dirt and several empty bottles including one Geraldo claimed was for moonshine bathtub gin. Despite the ending, the special became the most-watched syndicated television special with an estimated audience of 30 million. Rivera later wrote of the event in his 1991 autobiography Exposing Myself that “My career was not over, I knew, but had just begun. And all because of a silly, high-concept stunt that failed to deliver on its titillating promise.” The term “Al Capone’s vault” has become slang for a heavily hyped event with disappointing results.

As ALL ACCESS first hinted earlier this week (NET NEWS 12/6), DOUG MCINTYRE will be returning to mornings at CUMULUS Talk KABC-A/LOS ANGELES, this time paired with news anchor TERRI-RAE ELMER, formerly the longtime afternoon anchor at crosstown CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFI-A. The new show, “MCINTYRE IN THE MORNING,” replaces PETER TILDEN’s morning show on KABC, effective JANUARY 3rd.
MCINTYRE has been hosting the CUMULUS MEDIA NETWORKS syndicated “RED EYE RADIO,” on which the syndicator is replacing him with “MIDNIGHT RADIO NETWORK” hosts GARY MCNAMARA and ERIC HARLEY. The syndicated version of “RED EYE RADIO” launched in early 2010;

“...might as well be Ron Kuby...”
I still miss hearing Curtis Sliwa and Ron Kuby on the radio. Sliwa is on another station now (970 AM in the morning drive if anyone is interested), I don’t think Kuby is on anywhere but I wouldn’t want to listen to him alone.
It was just a great, funny radio show. They even did some real parody type bits with their producer (or whoever did them).
I was SO ANNOYED when they threw them out for that old fart Don Imus.
This guy is an out-and-out leftist majoring in amnesty for illegals.
Fox keeps him around as a token everything.
Will we ever be rid of this creep?

yup...

>>Herman Cain.....Mark Steyn.....Ann Coulter....Michelle Malkin....Donald Trump....but, please, not Geraldo. :)
>>Finally a host to bring some credibility to WABC (sarcastic smiley)
>>It seems pretty apparent to this listener that WABC has lost all programming sense- now this idiot. Pretty funny that when ever media people talk about “balance” they only mean more socialists on air.
Only good part— like Crummey, Geraldo will be gone in less than a year. Nobody wants to be stuck in traffic, hearing that whiny voice nagging them.
After a month, you’ll be able to find empty booze bottles at the radio station, too.
Crummey to crumbiest.
Rivera was a Imus guest this morning.
Watch out Rush, Sean, Mark!
Geraldo gets the 10:00AM to noon on WABC radio.. hundreds of stations across America to follow shortly.
I'll give America what we're not hearing now, says Rivera. Not going to be the same ol' talking points. "I voted for Obama!" proclaimed Rivera. But Obama didn't go far enough.
Nytimese, Latimese, liberals, progressives excited exclaim, "With Air America and now Geraldo, we win!"
Wot? Air America is down to just two stations? Both home-based neighborhood broadcasts?
