The Rich are not Conservative
The American Thinker ^ | 12/11/2011 | Bruce Walker

The latest Gallup Poll confirms what most of us had suspected all along: the rich -- that top one percent, the folks whom radical leftists like OWS rail against -- are not as conservative as the rest of us. The greater conservatism of the 99% rest of us is slight -- one percentage point -- but it does bring home the fact that many of those with wealth are rather happy with the struggling middle class keeping to its place ...

And Obama’s Occupy thugs and thugettes are the newest generation of Red, diaper, doper babies of the 1%.

The only people who benefit from Leftist policies are the very wealthy and the very poor.

There is nothing wrong with being poor and fine with the fact that others have more. Taxing them more won't help me a bit.

Government is what's really killing me. My home is paid off but I still gotta send a check to DC or I face losing the home I worked for. I pay nearly $5000 for heat and electricity for a year. That's more than 3 times what I paid a decade ago and why do you think that is? Government mandates driving costs up.

I know quite a few GOP voters who are NOT conservative:

1) Fiscal conservatives who are pro choice and pro gay marriage.

2) Church attendees who are BIG wealth redistribution supporters and big government supporters

3) Ron Paul supporters

Free markets ruthlessly destroy fortunes of those who do not earn, or continue to earn wealth. Look at lottery winners or second generation rich. More often than not the fortunes are squandered in a single generation.

An all powerful government will cause a stasis of sorts in the classes. With no competition no one will move up in wealth and no one will move down. Whether the rich know the philosophical implications or not, I believe many of them see a large controlling government as a way to permanently entrench themselves and their family as the elite.

Their minds will change right when they and their family are put up against the wall.

Gee, who would have thought?

The really wealthy are usually liberal. Why? Once you have that much money and power you start thinking that you should be able to tell people what to do.

The guy who is just wealthy or working on it usually does not want to tell you what to do, he just wants to be able to tell you where to go.

Then there are the ones who have made it to the top, look at history and realize that most money is "new money". So if they want to stay on top they need to kick anyone else who is climbing off the ladder.

The third reason is that many of the ultra wealthy made their money from movies or sports. They tend to believe that they made it because of "luck" and that the guy who worked 16 hour days for 30 years to become a "overnight success" also made it because of "luck". They don't see any difference between money earned by a great deal of hard work and risk and money earned by being a dancing monkey.

A good number of rich love socialism, it keeps out their competition. Absolutely and socialism allows failed businesses and business models to stay alive -hello GM.

I know a guy, a big lefty, loves to preach on the evils of our ways, how we should give more for the poor and workers, blahblahblagh - he treats his employees like s**t, squeezes every nickle out of them he can, complains about expenses and buys a new boat and car

Yes, the government is in charge of our energy supplies. The problem is not over big oil per se, but over the big oil government complex wrapped around it.

Remember that it was the rich man Engels who financed Marx’s works.

I think that this happens far more than people realize. Leftists are very miserly personally, but full of love when it comes to the government. How wonderful!

Michael Moore. $50 million of assets puts him squarely in the middle class if you ask him.

He admittedly made lots of money with his propaganda...oh, but capitalism is wrong. But socialized medicine is a must.

at the hospital with everybody else, buddy—what makes you so special?)

(As for those born rich but are left of center:
Some people are born silver spoon in hand
Lord don’t they help themselves
But when the taxman come to the door
The house looks like a rummage sale—CCR)
