A 4-year-old stray cat that was rescued from the streets of Rome has inherited a $13 million fortune from its owner, the wealthy widow of an Italian property tycoon.
Maria Assunta left the fortune to her beloved kitty Tommaso when she died two weeks ago at the age of 94. The feline's newfound riches include cash, as well as properties in Rome, Milan and land in Calabria.
As her health began to fail two years ago, Assunta, who had no children, began to seek out a way to see that Tommaso was properly cared for after she died. In November 2009, she bequeathed her entire estate to the alley cat that she'd rescued.
Initially, Assunta had instructed her attorneys to "identify an animal welfare association or group to which to leave the estate and the commitment of looking after Tommaso," according to the Daily Telegraph.
Unable to find a satisfactory association to see to it that Tommaso was loved and cared for, Assunta decided to leave all her money to the cat via her nurse, Stefania, who cared for her until her dying day. Her last name has not been disclosed.

Anyway, I didn't read the article but if there are pissy family members, they might have a case. When Leona Helmsley died, she left her money to her dog. Family sued and I THINK won.

I would think anyone could sue and win...her next door neighbor, her mailman, her garbage man, the kid that mows her lawn. If I was on the jury, I’d give it to any of those over a damn cat. Then I would go piss on the stupid hag’s grave.
I whole-heartedly agree. The money was hers to do with as she saw fit. Leaving it to her companion in her final days, via he nurse, is no one’s concern but her own.

Her money, her decision. Be it pampering her beloved feline after she passes or piling up all her money into one great pile and having the most expensive bonfire in history.

It would’ve been very easy to cut them out. All she had to do was leave her money to something sane...AS IN NOT HER CAT. But she was a sick twisted stupid jackass. Apparently you are too or you would be able to see it.
One of my favorite stories is “Ophelia” by Florence Stevenson, about a cat who had inheritate her owner’s home and fortune. In the copy I have I kept a news clip of “Charlie Chan”, a white cat who inherited an estate back in April 1978. It’s crazy but hey, free country and all that...
