This is my new favorite carol, “A baby changes everything” by Faith Hill.
The video is very moving.

Bob Dylan’s “I Believe In You” as sung by Sinead O’Connor. (Yes...I know...)
They ask me how I feel
And if my love is real
And how I know I’ll make it through
And they, they look at me and frown
They’d like to drive me from this town
They don’t want me around
‘Cause I believe in you.
They show me to the door
They say don’t come back no more
‘Cause I don’t be like they’d like me to
And I, I walk out on my own
A thousand miles from home
But I don’t feel alone
‘Cause I believe in you.
I believe in you even through the tears and the laughter
I believe in you even though we be apart
I believe in you even on the morning after
Oh, when the dawn is nearing
Oh, when the night is disappearing
Oh, this feeling is still here in my heart.
Don’t let me drift too far
Keep me where you are
Where I will always be renewed
And that which you’ve given me today
Is worth more than I could pay
And no matter what they say
I believe in you.
I believe in you when winter turn to summer
I believe in you when white turn to black
I believe in you even though I be outnumbered
Oh, though the earth may shake me
Oh, though my friends forsake me
Oh, even that couldn’t make me go back.
Don’t let me change my heart
Keep me set apart
From all the plans they do pursue
And I, I don’t mind the pain
Don’t mind the driving rain
I know I will sustain
‘Cause I believe in you.
silverleaf, that is my very favorite Christmas carol. Excellent choice! It is truly sacred music.
For something a little more “profane”...

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.
I sing with a caroling group at work, and could not pick a favorite! However, I’m really glad we DON’T sing “Mary did you know?” (An angel appeared to her, for crying out loud. I think she had a clue!!)
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord: He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword: His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps, They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps: His day is marching on.
I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel: "As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal; Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel, Since God is marching on."
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat: Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on.
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave, He is Wisdom to the mighty, He is Succour to the brave, So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of Time His slave, Our God is marching on.
for me, it’s “O Holy Night”. That song brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it, regardless of who sings it.
An Earthly Tree, an Heavenly Fruit, William Byrd
We were supposed to sing it again last year but my daughter ended up needing cancer surgery and our Christmas morning performance didn't happen. We are on, once again, for this year, and she's healthy and in remarkable voice, so things should go well as long as I don't mess up!;-)
There’s a line from the Newsboys’ song “Adoration” that always gets me:
“He takes my finger
And he won’t let go
And he won’t let go
It’s nothing like I knew before
And it’s all I need to know”
Since I’m in Wisconsin I felt the urge to post this.

Tax bills shrink, are you listening,
In the state, taxpayers are glistening
A beautiful sight,
We’re happy tonight,
Walker in a bitter liberal land.
Gone away was the fleabag,
In his place was a tea bag
AFSCME screams of recall,
All libs go along,
Walker in a bitter liberal land.
In the ghetto, we can fill petitions,
And pretend that she’s Shaniqua Brown
He’ll say: Are you union?
We’ll say: No man,
But libs will still do the fraud
When you’re in town.
Later on, libs conspire,
Of who their going to fire
To face unafraid,
Marxist plans that they made,
Walker in a bitter liberal land.
In the ghetto we can fill petitions,
and pretend that she’s Shaniqua Brown
He’ll say: Are you union?
We’ll say: No man,
But libs will still do the fraud
When you’re in town.
Later on, libs conspire,
Slashing, conservatives tires
To face unafraid,
New voters they paid,
Walker in a bitter liberal land.
Walker in a bitter liberal land,
Walker in a bitter liberal land.
