BOSTON, December 14, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A front-page story on the Boston Globe’s Sunday edition highlighted the work of a prestigious Massachusetts hospital which blocked and altered the development of one young boy’s body to match his self-identification as a girl.

Wyatt Maines, now 14 years old, is the identical twin of brother Jonas - but thanks to powerful hormone blocking drugs, he is now five inches shorter and several pounds lighter than Jonas, sports more feminine features, and goes by the name “Nicole.” “The thought of being a boy makes me cringe,’’ said Maines. “I just couldn’t do it.’’

Soon, Maines plans to begin taking estrogen to develop hips and grow breasts, an irreversible change that will cause permanent sterility. The last stage - what the Globe calls Maines’ “final step on her journey to womanhood” - will be surgery to remove Maines’ penis and create a vagina-like structure.

The Maines family said they opted for the treatment to remedy young Wyatt’s gender identity disorder (GID), recognized as a psychiatric condition by the American Psychiatric Association. The APA’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual states that only a very small number of children with GID maintain the symptoms into later adolescence or adulthood.

Psychiatry has no “easy” answer to homosexuality or even transgendered folks.

However, these things are not “all or nothing”.

And there is a good argument that the present day “epidemic” of transgenderism is due to obsessive/compulsive ideas being reinforced.

In Asian religions, (e.g.Confucius) one rejects one’s personal desires and does the right thing. Marriage doesn’t require love, but obedience to the role model.

So you quietly do such things in private while playing the role given to you in society.

For gays, it means in the closet, or else living on the fringes of society where there is a “space” for gays (e.g. theatre, transvestites in India, gay subculture in the Philippines).

In the west, you change society to “accept” deviant behavior.

The question is: Is this “good” for society? Will other children become confused about what is male and female?

A lot of the “culture wars” today are not about religion per se, but about the confusion of sexuality, where sexual activity is outside the sphere or morality, and male and females are the same in everything, ignoring the reality of sexuality in the personality.

Great for women with careers, who now are “free” to live as men, but not great for those who want to be moms.

Several years ago, Johns Hopkins University Hospital disbanded its “sex-change” program because of serious concerns within the group that it was doing more harm than good. In November, 2004, Paul McHugh, Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins and a director of the program, wrote about it in an article in First Things Magazine.

In the article, Prof. McHugh said:

I have witnessed a great deal of damage from sex-reassignment. The children transformed from their male constitution into female roles suffered prolonged distress and misery as they sensed their natural attitudes. Their parents usually lived with guilt over their decisions-second-guessing themselves and somewhat ashamed of the fabrication, both surgical and social, they had imposed on their sons. As for the adults who came to us claiming to have discovered their “true” sexual identity and to have heard about sex-change operations, we psychiatrists have been distracted from studying the causes and natures of their mental misdirections by preparing them for surgery and for a life in the other sex. We have wasted scientific and technical resources and damaged our professional credibility by collaborating with madness rather than trying to study, cure, and ultimately prevent it.

http://www.firstthings.com/article/2009/02/surgical-sex—35

In 2010, Richard Fitzgibbons MD, Philip Sutton PhD, and Dale O’Leary — a psychiatrist, psychologist, and researcher associated with NARTH, all with several years experience in this field — published an article in National Catholic Bioethics Center titled “The Psychopathology of “Sex Reassignment Surgery”:

In the paper they concluded:

Sex reassignment surgery (SRS) mutilates a healthy, non-diseased body . . . Candidates for SRS may believe that they are trapped in the bodies of the wrong sex and therefore desire, or more accurately demand SRS; however, this belief is generated by a disordered perception of self.

Child psychiatrist Dr. Miriam Grossman testifies before the California Legislature on the effects of acceptance of “transgenderism” on children.

Walt Heyer, a former transsexual (who had surgery to “become” a woman) has lectured internationally about his horrible experience “becoming” a woman and realizing he wanted to be a man again. He describes his experiences in a book titled “Paper Genders.” Working with MassResistance, he submitted compelling testimony before the Massachusetts Legislature earlier this year:

“This surgery is absolutely destructive” — sad message from former transgender to warn others
What the activists don’t tell you . . .

Sarah Allis Yang is a young woman who identifies herself as a recovered transsexual. Earlier this year, working with MassResistance, she submitted testimony to the Massachusetts Legislature.

In her testimony she said:

I spent 19 years of my life living as a man. My first words were “I’m a boy.” If anyone could claim that they were “born this way,” it was me.

I thought I had no choice but to either get surgery or continue dating women as a man trapped in a girl’s body. I became suicidal not because of societal pressures or lack of understanding or acceptance from others but because I personally didn’t want to live this way because it was a detrimental and painful lifestyle and no one offered me any other choice or option but to be this way.

That led to hopelessness and depression, because of the belief that I could never change. That is until God came into my life.

Thirteen years later, I now totally embrace and accept myself for who I really am, a woman. I’m even marrying the love of my life, a man named Matt this September. This is the happiest I’ve ever been with myself.

Sarah was one of the lucky ones. She did not have the hormone treatments or body mutilating surgery, which the activists constantly are pushing.

I very rarely use this phrase, but “There oughta be a law!” In this case, there definitely should be laws against giving sex change treatments to minors. Anyone who would do this to a child should be thrown in prison, and I’m not joking. This article literally sickens me.

“In the west, you change society to “accept” deviant behavior.”

In either case, of accepting or rejecting behavior, ignores that such gender mis-identification is the result of women being exposed to significant amounts of natural and synthetic hormonal active chemicals, which in turn interferes with the gestation of their children.

One of the most profound concerns is the use of plant estrogen, to improve the health and yield of agricultural crops for decades. Plant estrogen is chemically very similar to animal estrogen, and is thought of as so potent that it could be a determinate factor in gender itself.

Here is a list of foods high in estrogen, and foods that *inhibit* estrogen. Importantly, since estrogen inhibits testosterone in both males and the tiny amount of testosterone in females, estrogen inhibitory foods are also very important.

Thus, long before it becomes a “nuture” argument, it is a “nature” argument. It is also much easier to monitor and even adjust fetal development than it is to do so to a child or adult, through cultural or psychological means.

Finally, there is the as yet unmentioned problem of children who are born with gender variance. The extreme of this is Hermaphroditus, but many more have conditions like androgen insensitivity, so that, though male, they develop a female body type, even breasts.

If society deals with this formative problems, fussing about whether abnormal people should be fixed becomes far less pressing.

This is medical “science” taking advantage of a profound mental illness. If this kid has XY chromosomes, he is a male.

Really, really sad and reprehensible.

This is cosmetic surgeons taking advantage of people who are very mentally ill.

What a way to make money.

I cannot imagine the removal of a penis in order to “become a woman”.

I’m a woman and it makes me cringe.
