Can only supp[ly a link....
GE sponsors the Magazine which chooses to disallow copying.
But an interesting article with detail about History and further development of the LED.
I am using a 7 watt LED to illuminate my keyboard and it is very bright.

Well I can get the link for an image in the article.
I don’t like LED bulbs. I looked into it, but I don’t like the color. I don’t like blue light. Looks cheap. Lacks ambiance. So for now I’m sticking with incandescents.
Totally into LED lighting. Especially for indirect lighting.
Also, will not buy GE products...had to get that in there.:)
If every one use LED’s it might impact (reduce) the load on the Electrical grid....
Read the article....my LED is white light.

Keep looking at led’s they are getting better at adjusting the color. LED’s however are a stop gap, a different type quantum dots, are just around the corner. In fact the first quantum dot TVs are due in 2012. They think you’ll be able to print them on your walls and have it be a TV or light.
Installed a gas fireplace last year and built bookshelves/ entertainment center around it. Installed glass shelves in the top, painted the back, top and sides inside the cabinet a dark flat brown, and illuminated the glass shelves with LED lights. It really looks great. The light is perfect and it makes the decorations on the glass shelf stand out beautifully.
Other than the Chinese?
I’ve seen the bulbs, including the one the guy says is his favorite. It’s cheap, blue light. Totally devoid of vibe. I’ll stick with incandescents.
Sounds nice.
They are getting better, but my goodness 30.00 for a bulb is a deal-breaker!
They do make much more visually appealing, and safer, Christmas lights.
I was just sampling LED lights two weeks ago. Totally unacceptable, despite the claimed savings. I’d rather spend more and get the lighting right than save money and live under cheap, ugly, moodless “efficiency.”
From the article it would appear that technology and volume manufacturing will over time reduce the costs dramatically.
Essentially, I would derive the full benefit of the lower power consumption of the LED option. Then there is the added benefit of smaller wire and lower current in my buried conduit allowing the option of CAT-5 Ethernet cable in the same tube. I'm also sure that the lower heat LED lighting produces would mean longer life for the fixtures as well.
Hmm. He says LED is the most expensive technology per lumen, but it uses way less watts per lumen. So it’s cheaper to operate but more expensive to buy.
Also I notice the cost of fluorescent bulbs has plummeted and they offer various whites.
They pencil well for a new installation. See post 17.
In less than five years there will be an equivalent 100 watt LED light for about $5, that will last 30 years or more.
Look for 40 watt equivalent hitting the market in the spring for around $10.
