There was a rumor at the time that 'Azaria' (the child's name) meant 'sacrifice in the wilderness'.Also,Lindy didn't cry enough.It was also thought that Azaria's older brother may have killed his sister.That poor family went through hell and it tore them apart eventually.

What's the problem? A baby of that age carries only about being warm, dry and fed.
We took both our daughters backpacking when they were under six months, though older than nine weeks.

Not really. The parents were devout Seventh Day Adventists, not well-known in Oz at the time, and the church was portrayed in the Oz media as a crazy child-killing cult.
Something to keep in mind. One person's Church is often another's Cult.
Nope, all convictions were overturned in 1988 after new evidence was found.
