LAWRENCE — Jorge Gomez sat at the bar at the Malaya Nightclub Saturday night and ran up a $118 bar tab while dressed as a woman. When he refused to pay the tab at the end of the night, club management called police about 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, club security directed Officers Michael Mangan, Carmen Purpora and John Tully to the bar, where they met Gomez. He was dressed as a woman in jeans, a woman's sweater, high heels, earrings and makeup, police said. Club owner Juan Hidalgo told police he would forgive the bill if Gomez just left so the staff could finish cleaning up and go home, but she refused.

He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. While being taken to the police station, Gomez repeatedly kicked the window of the cruiser with his high heels, causing a crack in the window. He was then charged with malicious damage to property over $250, police said. Police said Gomez was drunk and refused to allow a booking photo to be taken and was placed in a cell.

Police said that although Gomez refused to pay his $118 bar tab, they discovered during booking that he had $360 in his purse.

Howie Carr list ping. Jorge Gomez is not to be confused with Robert Somma, a (now former) Mass. bankruptcy judge who was arrested for a DUI after leaving a bar in Manchester NH. It was noted in some media that Mr. Somma was dressed in female attire at the time.

Wikipedia:
Robert Somma is a former federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts Bankruptcy Court. Somma was arrested near Manchester, New Hampshire on February 6, 2007 after he rear-ended a pickup truck. Officers determined that Somma was driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol.

Police reported that Somma fell back against the frame of his Mercedes-Benz as they removed him from the driver's seat. The incident gained national attention when it was revealed that Somma was dressed in drag, consisting of a "black women's cocktail dress, fishnet stockings and high heels". Additionally Somma, who is married to a woman, had "had a difficult time locating his license in his purse". He later admitted that he had been drinking hard liquor at a gay bar before the accident.

Somma pleaded guilty in open court to bargained charges. According to the Associated Press, he agreed to a 12 month suspension of his judicial license in addition to other punishments. Somma then resigned from the court, effective April 1, 2008.

Somma wrote a letter on April 2, 2008 to the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly stating that he was reconsidering his resignation. This change of heart happened after a letter writing campaign by fellow attorneys. WRKO talk show host Howie Carr responded by launching his own letter writing campaign, aimed at what he termed Somma's "stupendous lack of judgment in the one job where judgment matters most". Carr's goal was to halt any reinstatement of Somma, which would require judicial approval.

I think he might've been expecting that someone would buy him drinks. Hey, the economy's tough.

When nobody would, he started drinking on his own.

What is the point of this story?

I guess we’re supposed to feel sorry for him, because he’s apparently a trans-something. And the T in LGBT stands for the trans-whatever people of the world.

Heck, maybe he thinks he got in trouble because the world is bigoted and homophobic and all that.

It’s a good thing he/she/it got out of a booking photo. It would have definitely ended up on the internet for life.

Actually, I kind of imagine the “Barney Miller” rather than the Barney Frank take on this. Ideally, “Wojo” would be the best to make the arrest.

The sad part is the freak will probably get away with it with no charges. Too bad the bartender didn’t figure out it was a male and let the other customers know it

While no mention of a Ladies Night, I'm thinking many bars will do away with Ladies Night - we've already set precedent so "transgenders" can use restrooms/dressing rooms of their "chosen sex" - what's to say they don't legally get free drinks along with the real women?

what i want to know is if the club had a pre-specified bathroom set up for transgenders.

If not they should be in deep doo doo.
