Grapevine police investigate the scene where they found seven people dead outside Dallas in Grapevine, Texas, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011.

Four women and three men who police believe to be related were found apparently shot to death, and authorities said they believe the shooter is among the dead.

Six members of a Texas family apparently opened Christmas presents just before a relative dressed as Santa Claus showed up, opened fire and killed them before killing himself, police said Monday.

Grapevine police spokesman Sgt. Robert Eberling said the shooter showed up in the Santa outfit shortly before gunfire erupted and was a member of the family.

They found four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, dead. A motive for the shootings remains unclear.

“It appears they had just celebrated Christmas. They had opened their gifts,” Grapevine Police Sgt. Robert Eberling said Sunday, adding that the apartment was decorated for the holiday, including a tree.

Jose Fernandez, a 35-year-old heavy equipment mechanic who moved to the complex with his family about six months ago, said he always felt safe in the area, but is now afraid to let his 10-year-old son play freely outside.

Shows up on Christmas as Santa and shoot everyone to death?

This is like a bad horror movie.

...they believe the shooter is among the dead.

Was the shooter dressed like Santa? (Do I have to do all the work here?)

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this movie somewhere along the line. Seriously.....I recall a horror film where some mass-killer dressed up like Santa Claus!

“”Was the shooter dressed like Santa? (Do I have to do all the work here?)””

It only requires a tiny bit of work - it clearly says it in the article.

Indeed...John Waters wrote about “Why I Love Christmas” and noted there was a horror movie called “Christmas Evil”,
I think. Tagline: “He’ll sleigh you.”

Also a few years ago I read about someone whose last name was Santa shooting somebody to death. I noted to myself, what did the victim get from Santa this year? Bullets... :(

Christmas Evil? “He’ll Sleigh You”

aka Silent Night Deadly Night

>>Phil quickly realizes that his brother is the homicidal Santa he has heard announced on the news and proceeds to choke him unconscious.

it is interesting that the family is not identified.
In the Dallas paper ti reported the woman and man had just split and the man lived in their house not far from these apartments.
it also said the daughter had been dating someone without the father knowing.
This is a very bizarre and sad story

Very naughty indeed.

For some reason I don't think that was on their Christmas gift list. I know it would be at the very bottom of mine!!!

What sort of vile derangement would lead someone to not just want to kill his(?) own family members on Christmas but to hide behind a jolly, happy Santa costume while doing it?

Makes me think of John Wayne Gacy and his clown costumes, to be honest. Getting victims to let their guards down. Whoever it was, I’d be willing to be those dead, smoldering, soulless lump of coal eyes will be peering out of the photo.

Reading the article is generally helpful:

Grapevine police spokesman Sgt. Robert Eberling said the shooter showed up in the Santa outfit shortly before gunfire erupted and was a member of the family.

Silent Night, Deadly Night! That’s the one! One of the holiday-themed slasher films. It’s been at least 25 years since I’ve seen it.

Looks like it’s time we federally regulate who buys and sells Santa suits! Perform a background check on anyone trying to buy one, make them wait seven days, and take a course from a certified tailor...that should solve this problem.
Cough...cough.

Yes—and the one I mentioned earlier, Christmas Evil is actually a different movie. About Silent Night, Deadly Night from Wikipedia:

>>Silent Night, Deadly Night was one of the most controversial films of the 1980s because the killer is dressed as Santa Claus. The PTA fought to have this film removed from theaters due to its subject matter and the fact that it was shown around Christmas, although an earlier film with a similar premise had gone unnoticed.

Upon its original release in 1984, the film created serious controversy. Siskel and Ebert condemned the film and went so far as to read the film’s production credits on air, saying “shame, shame” after each one. Siskel also said that all the money the filmmakers were making off of this film was blood money.] Leonard Maltin also condemned the film, calling it a “...worthless splatter film”, giving it zero stars and asking: “What’s next, the Easter Bunny as a child molester?” Large crowds (mostly angry families) formed at theaters and malls around the nation to protest the film
