I could never figure out why Sears bought K-mart to begin with. They were on the rocks when Sears bought them.
Oh! Last time I was in a Sears store I thought they were closed and forgot to turn out the lights and lock the doors coz nobody was there.
This happened on March 24, 2005, which makes the current manifestation of Sears about 3 months short of 7 years of age.

If you look at the locations you’ll see many of the closing stores are in or near urban areas. K-Mart seems to fill a niche in smaller communities where it often co-exists as a competitor to Wal-Mart, but in communities where the nearest Lowes, Home Depot, Kohls, or Target is maybe 50 miles away. Sears still has a good brand and K-Mart is competitive with any of the big box stores, I think this may be a recognition that they are more of a rural niche competitor than an alternative to the more upscale competitors. Most of us out here in flyover country grew up with the Sears catalog!
My friend and I were arguing about Sears being hurt by Wal-Mart. He is anti Wal-Mrt and he thinks that Wal-Mart iz taking away stores. I told him that Sears and KMart been MISMANAGED since the 1980s.
I am happy that their Orange Park and Avenues Mall Sears will remain open. I shop there from time to time.
Kmart I could care less about. I prefer Target and Walmart but I really hope Sears pulls it together and rehabs their brand.
In Clearwater, FL there are a Kmart and Walmart right across the street from each other. The WM lot always has AT LEAST 10x the cars the KM lot has. I have no idea how KM stays in business.
Ours in Fernandina Beach Fl is on the list. I have NEVER seen more than 10 shoppers in that store at one time. I suggested they turn it into an indoor firing range.
It makes no sense. The gubmint says people were purchasing lots of gifts for Xmas

When my father was growing up a 100 years ago, they had no indoor plumbing, but his family did have a “two-seater” in the back yard.
Since they didn’t have any Charmin, the Sears catalogue was what they used. No one was happy when they got to the glossy pages.
Good thing we have indoor plumbing now since Sears won’t be providing their catalogues anymore

In recent years, however, it is more difficult to find exactly the same thing in the store that you originally bought. My husband has had to settle for a similar tool or pitch in a couple of bucks for a newer version of a socket wrench.
Other than that, Sears is a dead issue. Can't find a person to help you, even though there are quite a few employees visiting with each other within view. More and more, Sears is an ethnic store, at least in our area of the world.
Every K-Mart within driving distance of us in the ArkLaMiss closed years ago. I haven't seen one in ages.
We have one KMart left in my local area, we went there a few weeks before Christmas. The store was filthy and disorganized, prices were high, and employees were rude and indifferent. I used to like KMart, but have no reason to go to that one again.
