Islamist violence has forced NIgerian President Goodluck Jonathan to declare a state of emergency and order the closure of part of the country's borders.

Jonathan announced the emergency measures Saturday, labeling the Islamist sect Boko Haram a "cancer" that threatened to destroy Africa's most populated body after a deadly week in which scores were killed by the radical Islamist terror group Boko Haram.

Speaking in a broadcast to the nation, the president said, "It has become imperative to take some decisive measures to restore normalcy in the country, especially within the affected communities..." He listed parts of the states of Niger, Yobe, Plateau and Borno -- where Boko Haram has its traditional stronghold.

Jonathan also ordered the shutdown of land borders between the affected areas to control "cross-border terrorist activities."

Well, it’s not as if they killed a late-term abortionist. THAT would have called for an immediate presidential tsk-tsk before hitting the links.

Can November come soon enough? Assuming this pathetic excuse for a POTUS is voted out of office, at which point I am a bit fearful of the November-January 20 time period, but there will be light at the end of the tunnel and he’ll be gone. And the US might return to its rightful place in world leadership, no more apologies, no more excuses.

Nigeria knows the danger...and knows what to do about it. There's a lesson in that...you think?

Except of course if you have an administration running the country that is sympathetic to those crossing and to the Islamics.

"As soon as the government troops start killing them Obama will call for a truce. "

AND!

Let them all come here as REFUGEES!!
(They can go to Maine and get on their welfare rolls just like the Somali REFUGEES did)

What a joke this country has become.

According to 0bama this is all misunderstood and not a concern.’

All that’s really going on is some minor increase of “Workplace Violence” in Africa.

Islam is really a very kind and loving religion.

From the CIA World Factbook:

British influence and control over what would become Nigeria and Africa's most populous country grew through the 19th century. A series of constitutions after World War II granted Nigeria greater autonomy; independence came in 1960. Following nearly 16 years of military rule, a new constitution was adopted in 1999, and a peaceful transition to civilian government was completed. The government continues to face the daunting task of reforming a petroleum-based economy, whose revenues have been squandered through corruption and mismanagement, and institutionalizing democracy. In addition, Nigeria continues to experience longstanding ethnic and religious tensions. Although both the 2003 and 2007 presidential elections were marred by significant irregularities and violence, Nigeria is currently experiencing its longest period of civilian rule since independence. The general elections of April 2007 marked the first civilian-to-civilian transfer of power in the country's history. In January 2010, Nigeria assumed a nonpermanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2010-11 term.

From Wikipedia:

Nigeria is home to a variety of religions which tend to vary regionally. This situation accentuates regional and ethnic distinctions and has often been seen as a source of sectarian conflict amongst the population.[93] Even though, Nigeria is apparently divided equally between Islam and Christianity between north and south, it is evident that across Nigeria there is widespread belief, albeit suppressed for political reasons, in traditional religious practices.

Based on a World Religious survey (Mapping out the Global Muslim Population) 50.4% of Nigeria's population were Muslims,[94] 50.8% were Christian[95] (15% Protestant, 13.7% Catholic, and 19.6% other Christian), and followers of other religions were 1.4%.[96] The core north is largely Muslim, there are large numbers of both Muslims and Christians in the Middle Belt, including the Federal Capital Territory. In the west of the country, especially in the Yorubaland, the population is said to be evenly divided between Muslims and Christians, while in the southeastern regions are predominantly Christians with widespread traditional beliefs, Catholics, Anglicans, and Methodists are the majority with few traditional beliefs, while the Niger Delta region is mainly Christian.[97]

The majority of Nigerian Muslims are Sunni, but a significant Shia and Sufi minority exists (see Shia in Nigeria) and a small minority of Ahmadiyya. Some northern states have incorporated Sharia law into their previously secular legal systems, which has brought about some controversy.[98] Kano State has sought to incorporate Sharia law into its constitution.[99]

Oil wealth and an even split religiously. They are ripe for another civil war.

Those churches were slated for demolition because they weren’t safe. They tried to tell the worshippers that it was dangerous to pray in there, and it turns out it was.

Don’t you love the term “IslamIST”? As if there was some distinction from “pure Islam”. Not simply “Islamic”, or “Moslem”, but “...IST”.

There’s no term for “radical” Christians - what would that be? “Christianist”?

It’s disproportionate. Nothing’s happened yet, but whatever it is, it’ll be a disproportionate response, and the UN will condemn it splickety-lit. Bibi, Avigdor...(I’m holding my nose) Ehud, go make friends with President Goodluck Johnathan. Sell him arms. Train his troops. Aside from being threatened by the same crazed Islamofascists as we are...HE HAS OIL!

” “And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah;” Where did Mad Mo get this stuff? Jews don’t believe anyone is the son of Allah.

So you can also make up stuff that members of another religion supposedly believe in? Ezra, a son of G-d? Never heard of it.
