Santorum or Gingrich?
Vanity | Vanity

Posted on 01/04/2012 5:41:44 AM PST by wolfman23601

Ok, my guy Perry is out so make your pitch (without copy/pastes and spam) for Gingrich or Santorum.

I like Gingrich's intellect and he has a pretty good record, but I am having trouble trusting him as he seems to lack the spine under pressure.

I like Santorum's traditional conservative values and record on domestic policy, but he sounds too much like a neoconservative with his foreign policy and I am frankly finished with nation building (I mean this in the true sense of the word "neoconservative" and not as a Paulbot style attack).

I can rule out Romney and Paul for obvious reasons.

Not that any of this really matters since neither Santorum nor Gingrich are on my ballot, but I thought it would be a good discussion.

I will probably vote for Paul in protest (no write ins in VA).

Gingrich. He will tear the federal establishment asunder. A House member is always preferable to a Senator.

What can be done to GOP officials in VA in the future? Can they be voted out or replaced in the future?

I'm voting for Newt in March.

Well Santorum 25 percent to Gingrich 13 percent. That is an easy one. Get behind Santorum. Newt's job now is to go after Romney with a vengeance. He is pissed off. His speech last night was all about blame and not about future.

A House member is always preferable to a Senator.

Wasn’t the last Congresscritter elected in the 1800’s? I don’t think that is an accurate statement.

As far as I know, though I have never been a party activist, it is pretty much party insiders. We can vote for Cuccinell, who at least floated a trial baloon of getting everyone on the ballot, over Bolling, who is a Romneybot. Nothing we can really do about McDonnell rither as governors cannot serve consecutive terms. They (both parties) didn’t give us a choice in the senate race either. The establishment decided it would be Allen vs Kaine and shut out anyone else from debates.

I am leaning Santorum because he doesn’t carry the baggage Gingrich does. I am speaking of his time as a “consultant” for Freddy mac and his prior endorsements of RINO candidates, especially in NY.

Gingrich can’t carry the base and is too polarizing. This isn’t 1968 and you just can’t be like that these days.

Santorum seems to be a go-along-to-get-along type. We'll see.
The last person we need in the WH and against the all or nothing RATs is weakness.

Santorum has far less exploitable baggage than Gingrich, and wouldn’t have to play defense throughout the general election. With Gingrich as his GOP opponent, Obama and his media allies would keep a constant focus on Newt’s flaws — and therefore keep Obama’s own miserable record in the background. If Perry is out, Santorum is looking to me like the best alternative to a Romney debacle.

Yes, Santorum certainly smoked him in Iowa, but all indications in SC and national polls show Newt with more strength. Obviously numbers will change with Santorums latest press and with Perry (and Bachmann’s?) support in the air.

Gingrich has more problems than I can Count. Santorum lost his reelection to a certified idiot by 18% and 2 years earlier supported pro-abortion Arlen Specter against Conservative Pat Toomey in the Rep. Primary. He also has been a prolific user of Earmarks. Did you ever notice that Santorum looks like a guy out of Hollywood Central Casting. Not a hair out of place and clothes fit like custom made and with no wrinkles.

Santorum?

His anti-birth control would lose the election decisively.

NO ! We want a president, not a bishop or pope or minister.

Santorum is my choice and would certainly fight against the evil DC powers that destroy all America.

Yes indeed. Newt should plow the road for Santorum by destroying the liberal democrat rino Romney.

Here is my prediction (as an FR amateur pundit):

I see a repeat of 2008, where the winner of SC wins the nomination.

Therefore, Romney cannot allow Santorum to get momentum, therefore, Santorum will get bloodied up between now and Jan 21 (SC). But Romney wants Santorum to split the conservative vote with Gingrich in SC, so he will be bloodied enough to depress his vote.

I predict that by Romney beating up Santorum, Gingrich can stage a win in SC (like McCain) and carry the flag to the end.

I didn’t say that congressmen get elected. I said a congressman is preferable to a senator.

Senators are elitists and aristocrats who are always hungry for executive power. That’s why so many run for president, and why so many fail to get there.

Presidents who spent a lot of time in the senate weren’t all that great. Harry Truman is the exception.

Polk was Speaker of the House and was a great president, though he was also a governor. Clay ran three times and never made it. Garfield did but was assassinated.

Governors are always preferable to members of congress but I’d prefer a House member over a senator any day.

I LIKE Santorum but I think Newt would DESTORY Obama (and the media idiot questioners) in a way I dont think Santorum ever could.

Gingrich/Santorum or Gingrich/Bachman or even Satorum/(Bachman or Gingrich) tickets would be pretty cool.

Besides I want to spend the next year going around saying “’e turned me into a Newt!”
