For about a week now, in multiple browsers and from iPad and iMac, Free Republic has been deadly slow. Frequently it times out waiting to load. This is on FIOS at top speed, both wireless and wired. No other site is even slightly slow for me.
I don't see any other threads mentioning this, and I've posted to the yahoo group with no responses, so I am assuming it's me. What could I be doing wrong?
Or has this been your experience too?
What's up?
It’s the Mac interface.
After my 18 month “old” Sony, All-in-One, mother-board fried, I moved to the iMac.
My interface access tie to FR increased about 5 fold....SLOWER...
LOL!
I dont know squat about software myself.
I do know that programs constructed in LabView take about 2.5 times as long to execute as the same program written in Unix.
Labview is easier to write, heck, even I can do it.
Boy it’s always something or the other.
I thought it was because I am using a Dell inspiron Duos? I feel like I am on a win 98 when I google something!
FNC is awful!
What a great word.
Not to wish troubles on anyone else, but I’m glad to hear it’s not just me!
FINALLY I could log on to post! So it’s not only me. That’s good.
It can’t be because I don’t donate. I should get a faster speed... :)
But it COULD be, as one of you suggested, that my straw poll vote for Santorum is putting me into Server Speed Squad B.
Anyway, I deeply hope that we can find a way to make it FUNCTIONAL for us all to enjoy every day. If I donated double, would it even go towards that? I am not asking for greased lightning here. I can’t get on most times these days at ALL. It times out. Sometimes I get teased by it loading for the headlines and I can’t click on any article. I just want my FR!
Sometimes it is fast, sometimes it is slow, most of the time it is just alright with me.
Take advantage of it. Use the time waiting to time exercises instead of counting repetitions — I do simple exercises and don’t have to struggle to remember how to count above twenty anymore.
“from iPad and iMac”
There’s your problem.
Dell laptop w/IE - blazing fast for me.
FNC is REALLY Bad at work.
The firewall goes nuts, and it takes forever to load.
You should try going to abovethelaw.com
I haven’t noticed any problem using my iPad.
I’m having the same experience——FR slow, all other sites fast.
But I've been having another problem as well: All of sudden, I can't get my IE browser to retain my login info any more; I've tried changing the settings in my FR preferences and in my IE browser as well. I also have the issue with other websites, so it's a problem with my Internet Explorer settings. I'm running Windows 7, and have tried the suggestions offered by searching via Google, but so far no luck. Anyone out there able to help?
FR loads within 3 to 5 seconds here - usually. But, at times it can take 10 to 12 seconds, which is fairly normal for ‘peak periods’ in the afternoon and eve.
And yes - only with one site: Free Republic.
When attempting to get to FR from my desktop (but not my laptops) I usually get this error message:
What's up? Is Homeland Security blocking FR or something?
And no, I am not joking.
Again, it is only with Free Republic that I have this problem.
